Do you EVER feel like you lost a part of your personality...as in trying to be so Godlike that your true self doesn't come forth? Not trying to insult. I'm just a curious person.

I think any honest Christian must answer yes to your question; since expressing our carnal nature is such a big part of what we call "living".

Your question considers two things which are important.

First, the loss turns out to be nothing but a feeling; which is what you were freebasing your life on. That is to say, what you first thought was a loss turns into a discovery about yourself and about God.

Second, trying to make yourself Godlike is just suppressing your carnal nature and will never work. This fact is the downfall of wannabe Christians and fun for those who hope or expect them to fall.

The above facts, false feelings and misguided efforts, produce the big business we call the world's great religions; with their offerings of consultation, forgiveness and enlightenment on the many human pathways to constant and repeated failure.

Now I have felt loss. But the loss I feel now is for the loss of true greatness among men; literally billions who fall short of their potential to live as sons and daughters of God.

I don't know if this is a good analogy; but it may be a little like being pregnant. You do lose a part of your potential and your opportunity for some things. Things are even drawn and demanded from your body. But the goal and desire is to produce the life of Jesus Christ; and that outweighs all the limitations and temporary losses.

Not at all, I think I gained a knowledge of who I truly am. I mean, who better than my Creator to tell me who I am? I was lost and without purpose, not really knowing who I was. When He brought me into His Kingdom, He spoke identity over me, showed me my purpose in life, my unique destiny. Now I know who I am, I am unique, I am not a clone. God created me the way I am, with a specific destiny that only I can complete. I didn't get a "new" destiny or personality, God just made all the pieces of who I already was fit into place. I lost my confusion about where all these pieces of my personality fit.

PS - we don't try to be Godlike, that is what Lucifer did and look where it got him. We are to strive to be like Christ, in following His example of how we are to conduct ourselves. It has nothing to do with our personality being lost.

I dont feel that I have LOST anything about me. My personality hasn't changed negatively or disminished. I think my worldview has been adjusted and my view of others has changed, but all for the better.

God doesnt ask you to change before coming to Him. He takes you as you are and builds ONTO what you are. He knows you better than you know yourself and uses your personality (and you) to further his kingdom and build a relationship with you.

Even though Christians say that Jesus comes and lives in you and it is like a possession of sorts; we still have control over our bodies. We have a war going on where we are fight evil desires in lieu of doing whats right. However, it is not about trying to BE anything. Unfortunately, many Christians think that they have to live by some new set of rules. In fact, it is not about rules, but about a relationship. The more you learn about God, the more you begin to be like Him without having to try.

It is hard to explain in words, but no I dont feel that I have lost anything.

Actually no.
When I was born of the Spirit, the missing part of my personality was made alive, and I realized that I was never created to live life merely as an animal who relates only to a physical world; but I am a spiritual being created to have a living relationship with the Creator of the universe, who redeemed me through His Son Jesus Christ.
I came to realize that life on earth is brief and filled with imperfections and corruption, but there is a higher and eternal life which I have begun to enjoy right now and will fully enjoy forever when I leave this dying planet.
If your faith seems dull and lifeless to you, it may be that you do not yet have life at all, but only dead religion. Jesus said "You must be born again" He said further "I came that they might have Life and have it in abundance." Only when we have been born of the Spirit do we begin to realize what true life is.
The Psalmist, speaking prophetically of the resurrection of Christ said this:
"You will make me know the path of life;
In you presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore." (Psalm 16:11)
Pray, and ask Him to show you what it means.
Peace to you.

Nope.... I can not express the joy I feel when my mind goes back to the day that Jesus Christ saved me. Even walking through a forest or garden, I feel an intense desire to draw closer to the ONE who created it all.

I lost my carnality, but not my personality.

People ridicule me for being this way, but they have no idea what it's like because they continually refuse it. Once I gave my life to Christ, my personality has made a turn for the better, and I don't regret it one bit.

By God's grace, no reserves -- I give my all to Him
By God's grace, no retreat -- I'll never turn back now
By God's grace, no regrets. -- I have no regrets at all.

No I don't feel that way. In fact I'm considered the "Knight" of my friends. I keep a high honor code for myself. To each their own of course, because I believe God gave us freewill, but I've always loved the idea, now it's something I strive for.

I think it's a great question and I took no insult from it.

I do not think that GOD ever intended for us to lose our personality. i think the disciples were still themselves. Try finding a book called the DESIRE OF AGES. it is a very good book, it is listed in the Library of Congress as among the greatest books ever written on the life of Christ. There are numerous sources for it, so look at the internet for a source near you. I am sure you can get it used as well. on the net.

Actually, there is no effort involved. That is, true christians aren't "trying" to be Godly. As they study the Bible and seriously seek God, they become stronger and are molded into the person they were meant to be.

Understand that until we come to the reality of Christ, we are under the influence of the prince of the power of the air (satan). We breathe in his rebellious nature (which we call human nature) and become lost in our transgressions (our sins). Once our eyes are opened to the truth, we breathe in the fresh air of freedom--freedom from sin. A young woman no longer allows herself to be devoured of men. She develops a strong sense of herself and becomes a beautiful flower, instead of a whore. A man no longer seeks to deceive. He holds his head up and takes responsibility for himself. It's not that he "tries" to be a better man; he becomes the man he was designed to be.

True christians don't walk around with a glazed look in their eyes. They don't attempt to force others to accept Christ. True christians are grounded. They know the truth; and they're capable of dealing with life's problems in a mature and reasonable manner. They look to the future, rather than live in the past. They become wiser and are more focused. They are forgiving, loving individuals, just as God has forgiven and loves them. It's a different way of living that is free of guilt, lies, and deception; and I wouldn't trade it for anything in this world.

First I'm a Christian, but not a Fundamentalist.

Second, no I don't, my personality still comes thru.

As did the personalities of those who God used to write the Bible.

My personality must be similar to Elijah, since sometimes I'd like to call fire down from heaven.

Well I used to think that of others that were more spiritually mature than I. They're like lost in the Lord, I never want to be that way... all they ever talk about and all they ever make reference to etc.... Now, here I am... loss of self.
The Lord will change you and you will grow in his word and in his plan, and if you love him, he will reveal things to you and you cannot help but love him more with each answer to prayer and each hurdle that you get over in the spiritual life.
There is definitely a loss of yourself for the sake of Christ, but you end up finding yourself (more answers, more prayer answered and more contentment) the more you walk in him.
So to know who I really was and who I am meant to be is in his will and I do not mourn for my old ways of thinking but look forward to growing in grace. Bye bye old me, no contest!
