If you are someone who deals with clients face-to-face, I personally would avoid a showy car. The first thing a client is going to think if/when they see your car is, "this guy is overcharging to support his lavish lifestyle".

In other words, avoid luxury brands like BMW, Audi, Lexus, etc, at least as your daily commuter. Drive an Accord/Camry/etc. type car to work. Leave the enthusiast car (Porsche, etc) for the weekends. Avoid the temptation to "show off" your money, it will just bite you in the ***. I know there is often colleague competition when it comes to cars (i.e. "Robert got an X3 so Bill just got a Hummer, what am I gonna drive?"), but honestly that kind of stuff should be left behind in high school.

A gray one of course...LOL. Sorry I couldn't resist. Seriously, I've got a friend that is a lawyer in L.A. and he had an image problem. If he drove a Nissan Z, his clients perceived and commented about his car and hourly rate. However, he bought a Maxima and the opposite happened. His clients, mostly middle-class, complimented the car and the hourly rate comments stopped. Since you have a fine line (image versus over indulgence) to walk, I would cap the car at about $35 k

Pick the car you like. It has nothing to do with being a lawyer.
