when I want to look at pictures in other folders or on my desk top, Adobe Photoshop 4.0 automatically opens. How do I stop this from occuring. Sometimes I want to glance at a picture without waiting for Adobe to load etc.

try selecting a .jpg file, right click and go to OpenWith=>Choose Program...

Before clicking on your progam of choice, check the

You might have to do this twice before Windows remembers but once remembered photoshop will no longer be the default application for that type of file.

You may want to do this for every image file extention

You must have the file type assocated with photoshop.
To fix it right click on the pic you want to open and selest open with from the menu. In the window that opens select the program you want to open the file. Make sure the check box for Always use the selected program to open this type of file is check. and click okay.

On older versions of windows you have to hold shift when you right click to get the "open with" option

If you have XP you can set a folder to view in "filmstrip" which will give you a nice preview without lanuching anything. Just right click on the folder and on the "Customize" tab select the Photo Album template and you'll have the option to view that folder in filmstrip when you open it.

It sounds like you have "Associated" your graphics files with Photoshop. Because Photoshop is such a large program and takes awhile to open it is better to Associate graphics with a standard graphics viewer like Xnview or Irfanview, or even the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer. Although the latter does not have much in the way of editing features.

you need to associate the file type with another program.

right click the image file and go to properties. you'll see "opens with:" click "change" and select a different program to open the file. i suggest windows picture and fax viewer.

ONLY IF YOU HAVE A MAC:

>Right-click on the icon of your picture, and go to "get info"
>Open the "open with" tab and select the drop down list. there are some applications there. If you dont want to use those applications then click on other and it will take you to all of your applications.

Hope this worked!
