when people pay with a check, they have to stand there and balance their check book when everything is bagged and in the cart? Can't you just write the name of the store and the amount and get out of the way??? Is it some kind of control trip? Arggggg!

Aaargh, my *mom* does that and it's so annoying! I've said, just put the receipt in the check register and fill it out when you get home!

Her response is when she uses a debit card or doesn't fill out everything right at the check stand then she forgets about it and the checkbook gets all screwed up. I think that's dumb - I use a debit card and keep a receipt envelope with my debit card in my check register. Then, it all stays together and I just take the two minutes to balance everything when I get home. If the envelope gets too bulky it drives me crazy and that's how I remember to balance it. The only thing that thwarts this is when the cashier just shoves the receipt in one of the grocery bags and I forget to fish it out.

That said, I *HATE* it when I'm trying to put my receipt and debit card away, and the next person in line is already putting their purse on the counter space that I'm still using. Give me two seconds to make sure I don't lose my stinkin' card and receipt! One lady actually gave me a little push...if she wasn't, like, 100 YEARS OLD (she wasn't but I wanted to tell her she looked like it) I would have stomped her foot...

I occasionally pay with a check, it is made out, all I have to do is right in the amount on the check. I take the reciept home, and balance the checkbook later. I timed it after reading how people do not like being in line behind someone who writes a check, and it did not take any longer to write it, than the person ahead of me who charged their bill, in fact, it was less, the cashier asked her to press a button, and she wasn't paying attention to her, and had to be asked again, and shown how, twice. I didn't really mind, but I could hear the sound of my premium ice cream melting.
You are right, though if a person is inclined to dawdle, they will do so with a credit, debit, charge card, or even with food stamps or cash! LOL!

You young shoppers will realize some day when your older and you are swiping your old and out of date debit/credit cards,, when the young person behind you is passing his invisibly bar coded hand across a censer that takes about three seconds to check out ........how it is to be comfortable with something that works for you, then why change, and are you really in such a hurry that you can't wait a minute to let some one write in there check book (no I don't use a check I use my debit card,) but I know that there are probably things I do when I'm shopping that annoys other ... like go through the express lane with more then 20 items...so lets be patient kind and understanding...because isn't that what we want people to do for us : )

Yes Yes and Yes. It never fails, your in line, the person in front of you is watching the items being run through, and oh lets say there are about 60 of them. During all this time, doe's the
person take out said checkbook. NO, they wait, untill the bagging starts, Then as if a revelation has ascended upon them, they take out the dreaded book. Its always my luck they cant walk and chew gum at the sametime. 7 to minutes later the damn fool is just now concluding.. Check Policy for stores should be NO CHECKS. If you want to pay by check, Once the register is cleared, take your slip to the customer service counter and tie there buts up for 30 minutes.

Why is everyone so impatient? I don't like it either, but on the 1 or 2 occasions that I have left my debit card in the car, I have written a check. No, I would not balance my checkbook there, but I wouldn't "hate" on anyone who does. Stop the damn selfishness..you will not always be young & in a hurry. I hope you can all show some compassion for others who are not "up to date" on what you are! IT'S CALLED STRESS, PEOPLE...that's why everyone is dying younger, you have no patience.

I thought for sure this was going to be about people who don't fill in everything but the amount before they get up there!

I also hate people who can't work the self-checkout, but stand there with a cart of produce.

Sorry, I'm a check person. I finally got rid of my debit card, because I never used it. For me, the debit card is more of a PITA than a checkbook is.

But that's just me. I happen to have a stress-free, peaceful life, so I don't get freaked out about how other people do their business.

People just don't think ahead. They get into what I call shopper's fog. They know they had to buy something, but when it comes time to pay for it, there's to many things that are available to facilitate their payment, and they just go blank. Also, a lot of people just don't care how many other customers want to get checked out and go home. It's a matter of just good old fashioned common sense.

It's just old ladies who write with checks these days, and yes, it takes them forever because that's how they learned to do it, and they're not gonna change now.

Till a couple of months ago, my very hip aunt didn't realize that her ATM card was, in fact, her debit card. Somewhere along the line, she just missed that transition in terminology. I clued her in, though, so she's not writing as many checks these days. lol

Well, I hate it too, but I had to require my ex-wife to do just that.

If not, it was forgotten about in 30 seconds, never logged, and would be cause for our other bills to bounce checks.

The reason, is because some people can't even take care of themselves, let alone give enough attention to the others around them in a shopping line.

(Debit cards not allowed for the very reason of no paper trail until it's too late.)
