Crossing your legs leads to varicose veins so really it's a good thing she doesn't have a habbit of crossing her legs. At 10 I know you want her to start to become more lady like but the truth is there is still time for all of that. Let her enjoy being a little girl while she can. Put her in some pants or shorts and allow her the freedom of movement because in a couple of years her childhood will have slipped away forever.

It might not be comfortable for her if she's built like a child, still carrying some baby fat. Take her build into consideration. If it's uncomfortable for her to cross her legs, show her how to cross her ankles and angle her legs across the front of the chair. It's just as effective and a very pretty way to sit demurely.
If she can't seem to get the routine of sitting demurely in a dress or skirt, simply pack away her dresses and skirts until she wises up. There are some adorable alternatives to dresses for girls out there.
Best of luck!

She is 10 and you will just have to remind her from time to time to put her legs together or cross them. She will eventually get the hang of it. And to she may not like crossing her legs. Some don't . Just remind her and she'll be ok.

I was always taught that it was impolite to cross the legs at the knees. The rule was to keep knees together and cross legs at ankles. Of course these days people don't really follow the old etiquette rules.
I wouldn't push your daughter to do something that she doesn't find comfortable. Just keep reminding her to keep her legs together and eventually she'll get it. In the meantime avoid short skirts.

I think i heard something on the news a few weeks ago that women who crossed their legs a lot may have more of some type of injury or maybe osteoporosis or arthritis. I will research it further and edit my post.
Here is one about crossing legs and hypertension: http://www.informaworld.com/smpp/content~content=a713797448~db=all
Flight and Deep Vein Thrombosis (sort of applies)
http://ohp.nasa.gov/topics/alerts/dvt.html
Another about the DVT:

I did see something though about crossing legs easing fainting spells or something.

I get a laugh everytime I look at your "Questions asked" ... 223 questions and ALL of them about legs and crossing legs.
I have answered this question several times, so I'll just take the laugh this time.

I cross my legs too, it is comfortable, many men do.
Just sneak a little crazy glue onto her kneepit while she is sleeping and then position the legs in a way you would prefer. Tada!

Hopefully your husband crosses his legs differently than you do, or THAT might be part of the problem.
How about she doesn't get to wear skirts or go out if she doesn't learn?
This one seems kinda simple, if you're willing to stick to the policy / punishment.

Explain to her why she would want to keep her knees together. Besides "being lady-like", what does she have to gain from it?
It looks more grown-up. (What kid doesn't want to be older?)
Especially if she's wearing a dress or skirt, no one will get a peek of what they shouldn't....
