why is N. Korea not allowed to have nukes while other countries can?

It depends on the leadership. That's why Pakistan, with terrorist camps and recruits can have nuclear weapons and North Korea and Iran can't.

There are basically two reasons. We have a bunch of allies in the region. South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, Australia for example. If they possessed a nuke, they could use it against those countries. What would you do, if you couldn't get a computer or ipod or cell phone from Japan any longer? You'd be crying daily.
The other reason, is that if you allow someone to possess a gun dealership and that person does illegal things, don't you think that, that person would be selling those guns to criminals or whomever else had the money to pay for them? Of course they would. So, take that another step, and substitute nukes for guns. If N. Korea had nukes, how long do you think that it would take for the Muslims to get them? They could buy one, and instead of another 9/11, they could plant one in your city and kill not only you, your family, your dog, your neighborhood, but everyone else within a hundred miles. Isn't that reason enough?

Because Kim Jung Il is a brutal dictator who starves, imprisons, and kills his own people and antagonizes his neighbors, especially South Korea--our ally--because we have troops stationed in the country. Trust me, you don't want North Korea having nukes because it's not "North Korea" that has the nukes - it's crazy Kim Jung Il who would have the weapons.

Because North Korea doesn't have sane leadership. Kim doesn't want to play well with others. You shouldn't give young children loaded guns to play with and you shouldn't allow governments run by a leader who's not mentally grown up to have nukes.

Actually North Korea is allowed to have nukes.

They just aren't allowed to have nukes and have the rest of the world trade with them and send them foreign aid.

So they were given a simple choice,

1. stop your nuclear program and receive trade and foreign aid.

2. continue your nuclear program and have trade and foreign aid cut off.

North Korea choose the trade and foreign aid.

People tend to forget, we don't have to trade with their country and we don't have to provide foreign aid to them.

That is our choice.

Iran is finding that out now also.

Um, because they're like the biggest supplier of black market military hardware to terrorist organizations in the world? If we let them get nukes, it's pretty much guaranteed that one will be going off in an American city within 5 or 10 years.
