One Hot Momma:

I don't concur. They are based on fundamentally contradictory epistemologies. Any person holding both must needs exist in a state of mental dissonance. It's easy to soothe the dissonance by saying that the faith aspect is in charge of the science aspect, but you cannot avoid the dissonance.

What, precisely, do faith and love have to do with each other?

I try to manage both when ever possible, and yes it often dose result in dissonance.

If life were easy then it would not be worth living.

I have an abundance of faith, limited understanding of many things, and feel that monism and dualism, if averaged, are probably accurate descriptions of our existence.

I like the either/or option.

I was thinking, assume someone applies reason and logic to everything they do all day long, how would their life look? I don't think its possible, but would this person be functional? I mean just turning on the shower, if you're into showering, might be a monumental mental task.

-----------------------------------------------------

After reading your comment on these two being mutually exclusive, can we see either being applied perfectly, without any use of the other? Can someone act completely logically without any application of faith whatsoever? I don't believe so. Everyone applies some faith in their life. Same goes for reason / logic. There is some level of logic being applied in the life of the most faithful person.

I don't lack faith, so I must have an abundance of reason! I like your logic!

I'm actually pretty illogical. And my faith is fairly limited by the standards of most, I'd think. (Yes, I'm pretty sure the sun will rise tomorrow, and it'll come from the east. Well, south-east, actually.) So I can enjoy having neither of the states mentioned in the question, and live just fine.

As hard as it is for you to grasp this J.P.

I enjoy a good amount of faith in the power of something that is beyond me, and I enjoy a lot of reason and logic.

Why? because I use my reason to reason with things my brain can understand: humans, their behaviours, my own personal behaviours, the universe around me i.e. the physical world and everything in it.

I also enjoy a lot of reasoning and logic when it comes to the rules of my religion. Because according to Islam, all our actions need to be healthy ones that benefit the doer, the society and humanity at large. I do not need to ignore my religion in order to live a happy life.

They fit perfectly with each other :)

the two are not mutually-exclusive, you know.

Again, I disagree. I can have faith in certain areas, and use reason and logic in other areas. I know you will disagree with this, but I can also say that I can use my faith in an area as my reason and my logic. Since my perception is my reality, I can pretty much define it however I see fit.

In most cases, I enjoy reason. Of course, it seems that faith can give comfort to people. But I would not want comfort based on a lie.

All that we learn comes to us via faith. First we BELIEVE what our parents tell us. Then in school we BELIEVE what our teachers tell us.
As adults we CHOOSE whom and what we want to believe. You can choose to believe in evolution or creation--both can make sense to a certain degree.

However, your choices of what you believe can also have consequences for good or bad. You can choose to believe the tornado warning and go for cover, or choose not to believe it and be on the path of destruction.

irony, i guess.
for some reason, those who have the abundance of reason and logic are the ones who are facing the worst difficulty of what simple, child-like faith is.

with hope you have caring, for life within us all.

I lack faith, and my power of reason and logic is not that developed...
