He literally means:
I'll answer you in MY time...and not YOUR time
Example:
I prayed for a good Christian woman to enter my life when I first got saved. God pointed me to the verse in Matthew that says, "Seek first the kingdom of God and all His righteousness; and then all these things shall be added unto you"
Well....I did that. And wouldn't you know it......he gave me a beautiful Christian woman....who keeps me tame to this day.

Just because you ask God for something does not mean you are guaranteed to get it. You will get things when God feels you should have it. Sometimes you might want something but God feels that it would not be in your best interest so he does not give it to you. Or sometimes God does not feel that the time is right for you to have it and may give it to you later. Look at Abraham and Sarah. They wanted a child. It got to a point where they thought they would never have a child and then one day, long, long, long, long, after they had prayed for a child, suddenly God blessed them with a child.

that things are best in his time, he sees the entire picture of our life, we can only see the here & now
when he says wait then it means the time is not right & he has something better for us , at the right time
example: I had wanted to marry this guy, but my parents did not think he was right for me & would not give me the ok to do so, well come to find out that the guy is a selfish creep, I ended the relationship w/ him, found a new guy who my parents loved , married the new guy, now my hubby of 10 yrs. & we have 1 child . If I did things my way & not listened to my parents & God's guidance I'd be divorced & misserable now.

I have a perfect example. I will try to make it short for your sake though. About 5 years ago, My family and I was living with my parents. We were not happy living with them, and were trying despretely to buy a house of our own.
My ex husband, was leaving for Kuwait for 6 months and I had to deal with all the closing paper work all by myself. It was very stressful for me to do this alone. Because I never dealt with this...alone before.
The real estate agent was a real 'peach' and I felt was literally trying to pull a fast one on me so I wasn't able to buy this house. It was about a hour and a half from my parents house.
When I got the news we couldn't buy a house until we cleared something off our credit report.....I was floored! It literally tore me apart. I remember crying, screaming in the shower with disappointment. We ended up living with my parents for another year and a half!
Now, what I truly believe is God knew I couldn't handle this situation alone, moviing, with 2 young children, at the time ages 3 and 2 .
But, we ended up buying a house together when the 'dust settled' and my ex was back home to help me with everything.
And what is kind of funny but, not really, is I didn't pray for this to happen to me. I do believe God interveined because He knew I wasn't able to handle it alone! (Sorry I made it so long :) )

At the Red Sea, God gave the Israelites a sudden and unexpected answer to prayer. However, they had waited for many years for their deliverance from Egypt. Sometimes, God answers a prayer and grants us what we ask, but asks us to wait for a while before He grants it. We need to be patient. Years ago, I deeply desired to travel to Israel and to visit Jerusalem. I claimed the promise of Psalm 37:4, "Delight yourself also in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart." God did answer my prayer—17 years after I prayed it! God eventually fulfilled my request, but His answer along the way was, "Be patient!" Eventually, my wife and I had the wonderful blessing of participating in an archaeological excavation in the City of David, in Jerusalem. But I had to wait for God’s will, and accept His timing.
When God’s answer appears to be "wait, and be patient," are you persistent in your prayers? Nowadays, in our time of microwave ovens, instant coffee, fast food and entertainment on demand, we often want instant gratification. The Bible, however, counsels patience: "For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise" (Hebrews 10:36). Do not give up on your prayers, if they are in line with God’s will. Be patient, and be persistent, until you know that God has answered

He is working out His plan for you. He wants to see that you can be patient and that you trust in Him.
My most recent example: I lived in Florida and love being in the South. I needed a change for many reasons and prayed on it, asking God where He wanted me to go, asking for His guidance. Well, he sent me to Wisconsin, dang it! LOL! Why? He had a great Christian man up here that he wanted me to marry. I have learned never to say "I don't want to go to..." because that's where I always end up. He has far greater wisdom than I, and He sees the greater picture. Trust in Him.

he means wait when hes saids wait. Example would be, you want this certain job but he says wait its not yet time for you to have it there will be no door open for you to get the job till its time for you to work there. if he says no, you can cancel it all 2 gether cuz you will not ever work there. (revelation 3:7) what he shuts no one can open and what he opens no one can shut. he has his reasons for the yes, no, and wait you have to do your part and trust that he DOES know and he does it for our good!
