I don't think it causes brain damage....
But
Extreme obsession/adherence to a religion can defiantly stop brain development.
If you are so convinced your story is right, and go so far as to reject all other ideas before you even hear them, how can you expect to become a better and more well rounded person?

That is your personal opinion.
Religion is a set of rules to live by.
Religion does not cause brain damage. Only troubled people, who think by forcing religion onto others is a good idea, might cause brain damage.
The reason I said 'might' is because the human brain is resilient. Unless it already had genetic inclinations to not work properly, it will not be affected by outside behaviours of other people.
Only physical ones can cause brain damage.

Brain damage may occur due to a wide range of conditions, illnesses, injuries, and as a result of iatrogenesis. Possible causes of widespread (diffuse) brain damage include prolonged hypoxia (shortage of oxygen), poisoning by teratogens (including alcohol), infection, and neurological illness. Chemotherapy can cause brain damage to the neural stem cells and oligodendrocyte cells that produce myelin. Common causes of focal or localized brain damage are physical trauma (traumatic brain injury), stroke, aneurysm, or neurological illness.
Conclusion: Religion does not cause brain damage.

I will never in my life understand why certain people can't accept love. Why they choose hate. God is based upon the principal of love so if you don't beleive in love what do you beleive in? In fact the bible claims that GOD is love. Are you trying to say loving each other causes brain damage? : (

Not using your brain causes damage. I'm not talking about everyday thinking . If you don't expand your mind it will go away. Ever heard that saying, If you don't use it you will loose it? That's the truth :)

Religion lightens the burdens of thought and indecision.
Hence the brain has to work less, and eventually becomes useless for tackling problems.

It causes people to be morally lazy and unquestioning. It uses various tactics of emotional manipulation to indoctrinate its converts and keep them bound to the group.
It is not brain damaging, but it is damaging to one's way of thinking.

More like brain atrophy. Use it or loose it. It's akin to alzheimers disease.
