There are a lot of reasons why people are afraid of death, but, one important reason is the fear of what lies ahead when you're dead. If you think your soul is secured in the next life then there is no reason to be afraid of death. Those suicide bombers in Baghdad are sure not afraid to die. And, so with many true Christian believers, they are victorious in death because they are assured of an eternal life in heaven. Many, though are afraid of death in relation to pain. And many still are afraid to leave behind those they treasure so much in their life.

Hello and God's Word has something to say about fear, read it in 1 John 4:17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
4:19 We love him, because he first loved us. You see death does happen to us all, but "IF" we live for Christ we need NOT fear death, Jesus in John 1, Heb.1:5-9 and 13:8 is God, and He has the victory over death read what is says in
1 Thess. 4:13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive [and] remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
4:17 Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
4:18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Very few non religious people fear death, I think.
It is only those who have created a fantasy afterlife that fear it. And of those, the ones who have been told they will burn somewhere unpleasant, I am quite sure are not overly keen to the shuffle off the mortal coil any time soon.
Serves them right for being morons.

I use to fear death because of the fear of the unknown. Now that I know I will meet God I have no fear.

That is simple , they rejected Jesus and don't know Him .
But now they fear what they have rejected and are coming to
know the truth and realize that it may be to late . But as long
as the Grace of God puts breath in them , they can have hope
that God will save them if only they accept the truth , accept
Jesus . Then death just gives birth to everlasting life face to
face with our Holy Father the way it was meant to be in the
beginning before Sin entered the world .

People who have no assurance of their salvation fear death. I know, since I was afraid of death before I put my faith in Jesus Christ. If there was no God, then death would be merely a ceasing of existence, with nothing to fear.
All spiritual creatures (God Himself, angels, and humans) recognize that their spirits are eternal and that they will go through judgment of God, based upon their adherence to the laws of God. The Bible says that knowledge of God's existence and the eternal nature of the human spirit has been revealed to all people:
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end (Ecclesiastes 3:11, italics added).
If you fear death, yet believe that God does not exist, then
you are being irrational. Then again, maybe you know that death is not the end of your existence.

I don't. Death is just a means to an end of this world. Which is a freedom and on to the next where my treasure is, in heaven with the Lord

Many people fear death because of all the unfinished things they would leave behind for others to handle...
Many people fear death because they know it will cause grief in their loved one's .. just as they have felt it when others have died before them...
Some people take it as it comes.. none of us will get out of this life alive unless Jesus comes back to stay in your lifetime.

The unknown, being alone, leaving our comfort zone, surrenduring our physical bodies to the ground or fire, not being able to take a breath or dying in extreme circumstances etc, etc can conjour up fear in the best of us. With myself i am not scared of death but scared of leaving my very young children without a mother.

People who fear death have very little faith in God. Think of it this way... to the caterpillar, it's the end... to the butterfly it's the beginning.
There is physical DNA and spiritual DNA., what will be will be. No need to fear, God's in control.
