Cost of living in UK is about 30% more than USA. The things you actually need, like food, shoes, clothes, fuel and housing are all expensive. Cack you don't really need is cheap.
The fuel will put you off.....the average UK car does about 35 miles per UK gallon. UK petrol is £4.36 per gallon. That's nearly 9 bucks! OK, our gallon is a bit bigger than yours, please be free to convert it once you've picked your chin off the floor.

The average salary for absolutely everyone is about £23000. However, as you job is skilled, you'd probably earn more.
If you choose to live in London then you'll get paid more than for the same job outside London, but living costs in the capital are a lot higher.
