I was just wondering whether my "hearing voices" is actually a mental health problem. I understand that in most cases it is but I'm fairly sure my "case" is different.
Basically, most days I hear angry voices in my head. They're not at all clear and it just sounds as if a few people with pillows over their mouths are having a very manic argument. As you can imagine it's extremely disconcerting. I've been experiencing this since I was about 15 (roughly 4 years) and haven't ever really discussed it with anyone, but recently the voices have been getting louder and more frequent.
The only way I've found to make it (temporarily) go away is to drown them out with loud music etc.
So my question is just, should I be worried? Is this the whole "hearing voices" leading to madness scenario? Or is it just normal?
Thanks

sometimes this can be normal especially right before bed or first thing in the morning.

but Please see a doctor immediately. If it is mental health related, it will get worse quickly. So it's worth checking out. Especially if you're finding that you can't concentrate, are getting in fights with people or feeling angry. If you're having severe mood swings, voices can also accompany bipolar disorder.

You sound rational and on the ball. You also don't sound delusional so as far as your post goes, you seem ok. Especially since you feel concern about the situation and you recognize that something might be medically wrong. That's a very, very good sign that you are still functioning cognitively.

Just check it out and don't worry too much. Sometimes weird things happen. Our brains are very strange :)

You really should go and discuss this with your primary health professional, local doctor or what ever. You are not going mad if there is a psychological problem he / she will refer you to someone else. You may need to take some simple medication to stop the sounds you hear Do not worry it can and will be sorted out if you do something now.

I can hear voices as a psychic.
The main difference is that these voices don't raise emotions in me. And I need to get into another mental state to hear them. And I can ask them to go away.

Angry voices around is not good at all.

Without any further delay should you approach a sympathetic and not-busy mental health practitioner. Seeing a reputable (and they can be difficult to locate) clairaudient person would be good as well.

I have no qualifications to diagnose mental health problems. But I have found it helpful to talk to the local paranormal psychology department at the local university. Pretty good indicator of it being a problem: you should be able to ask them to go away and be quiet. If you cannot communicate with them and they seem to control you and dominate you with their arguments you should seek medical attention.

So please without delay seek assistance from someone specialised in this, from more than one practitioner, get a second opinion
all best

Well it can go two ways. Hearing voices is considered a mental issue in this forum. However, there are paranormal forums that would say differently. It is up to you to explore the possibilities. In a forum such as this it would be suggested you see a therapist. I do believe in the paranormal, although I am trained in the medical sciences in more then one field. So I am not trying to be funny. Explore both possibilities.

You should be worried as it is not normal?
But it wont lead to a madness scenario..
Firstly you have to make sure that you tell this to your mother and stop thinking that it will make you mad as it wont. There are many people with the same problem and each having different reasons like chemical imbalance in the brain or just sounds that were created when they were asleep.

It could be a lot of things, but if I were you, I'd see someone about it (a psychiatrist). You could be developing something like schizophrenia and there could be treatment that you are missing out on. Also, if it is starting to get worse, you should see someone about it before it becomes a major disruption in your life. Call today and make an appointment with a psychiatrist (it will take you a while to get in). Good luck! :)

It is called Schizophrenia. See a psychiatrist because one pill a day will make it go away completely. It will get steadily worse until you reach the age of about 40. Eventually it will progress to thought disorder, flat effect and florid hallucinations if untreated.

It is not normal, but on the other hand you should not be worried either because there are effective treatments out there. Left untreated, it could progressively get worse. I agree with everyone else in that you should go to be evaluated.

Hearing voices is never normal, and it would be in your best interest to see a doctor for a psychiatric evaluation.

I would go to your doctor about this.
You shouldn't leave it unchecked, it's better to make sure.
