Two different perspectives of the same event. When you read the Gospels, they are ACCORDING TO that specific person. While one saw certain events that impressed him a certain way, another might have heard a different part of a conversation, or saw the event from a different angle, or was of a certain mindset.
Some of the disciples were convinced Jesus was the son of God, others were doubtful, and had forgotten about the miracle that had just been performed earlier.
When the Bible talks about the disciples, it wasn't just 12, these were the main ones. There were many more that followed Jesus in his journeys. The Bible records events as seen by those individuals.
If you interviewed people that were in New York on 9-11, they all saw the same thing, but might have heard it before they looked up. others might have just come out of the subway, and still others might have been in a cab driving by and just caught a glimpse of a jet going by.
Peter and Paul were the strongest believers, and were instrumental in founding the early church, but they saw things completely differently. Peter thought that Christianity should be for Jews only, and Paul was out converting Greeks and other non-Jews. They BOTH were giants of the early church. They both agreed that Jesus was their Lord and savior, but disagreed on how to go about converting people to Christianity.

Because the books of matthew, mark, luke and john are written from 4 different authors perspectives. They are accounts by the 4 disciples. If you read all 4 of the books you should see the main facts are the same, but the reactions and details are different. It would be the same as if 4 different people wrote about a ballgame, the main point would be the same, but the details would be different.

Because 2 different witnesses report the same event. Any time more than one person reports what they see you will have some differences. If you read 2 different eyewitness accounts of the same accident in a newspaper and those 2 accounts differ slightly, will you say that the newspaper "changes its mind?" Probably not. Same thing here.

According to many answers here I guess my newspapers I read are all a BUNCH of Garbage. I read about the same incident in three different papers ant they are different! I hear on the news three different accounts of the same story and all are different! Thus the newspapers and news are all garbage!!! My friends tell me about the same story and they are all different. My friends are all garbage!!!
Intelligence suggests different storyies about the same incidend offer different perspectives. Since when is life black and white? The Bible proves it is not and is too deep for some to comprehend. I am glad you ask instead of judge.

In one you are reading Matthew's observations.
In the other, you are reading St. Luke's account of the event, based on his interviews with others who were also there.
You could have a dozen different accounts and they could still all be true, as they are personal observations of men.

Mark 6:48-52..........And when he saw them being hard put to it in their rowing, for the wind was against them, about the fourth watch of the night he came toward them, walking on the sea; but he was inclined to pass them by. Â At catching sight of him walking on the sea they thought: “It is an apparition!” and they cried aloud. Â For they all saw him and were troubled. But immediately he spoke with them, and he said to them: “Take courage, it is I; have no fear.” Â And he got up into the boat with them, and the wind abated. At this they were very much amazed within themselves, Â for they had not grasped the meaning of the loaves, but their hearts continued dull of understanding.

I don't see what you mean about your question. This is two accounts of the same event, not contradicting in any way.
I think it may be the version...when it says their heart was hardened, it spoke about the miracle of the loaves.
Other than that I can't see what you are asking.

I don't see a contradiction. The 2 writers simply emphasised different things.

There is no contradiction there. Two seperate accounts and one wrote what he saw as important and the other wrote what he saw as important and both were inspired by God to be written. Read more.
