what does this mean whether 3 gb of data is going to be transferred per second ?

so 15gb data transfer takes on 5 seconds in SATA ?

Maybe you are mistaken in the reading
3.0 Gb/s (300 MB/s) interface data rate
Notice the b vs B.

But yes that would be 15Gb in 5 seconds.

They do transfer actually rival SCSI enterprise speeds if its SATA II and not SATA I.
