In most states, but not all, liability insurance is required. If it is not in your state, it is optional.
If you live in a state without mandatory insurance, you can register and drive a car. If you go into a state with mandatory insurance, you must have the insurance to legally drive on the roads of that state. Even if your car is legally tagged, they can still charge you with a crime if you do not have proof of insurance!!
In states with a mandatory insurance law, you have the option of not driving, or of buying insurance!!

are stopped by any law officer you must show proof of insurance. This can happen at a road check even though you have done nothing wrong. I know people lie when getting plates.
or they purchase insurance long enough to get plates then drop the insurance. That's why people buy insurance against the
uninsured or under insured. My advise is to get minimum liability coverage insurance.

Yes, in a sense. You must prove 'financial responsibility.' You could have ten million in the bank, for example, and then you would not need insurance. You must also be able to prove that you are responsible - which is what the insurance certificate in the glove box is for...

Proof of financial responsibility. Wreck some one and they sue you. Your car go's out of control and smashed thru the supermarket Killing three! milions of dollars in law suits. Keep full coverage on car you owe money on and Liability and uninsured motorist. Because there are illegal aliens with out any drivers licences and Insured? YEA RIGHT they crash and run away!

no you can't its mandatory everywhere in the developed world. You will not get a lic plate without proof of it and if you get caught with expired ins you will be arrested.
