the problem is that even if i try to move on and come over him, he keeps calling me all the time and chat and flirts with me AND expects me to be ok with just being frinds and not lovers anymore. He says, he does not want me to build up hopes that we may work out oneday while we know that we won't. But he cant stop talking to me!!! It doesn't make sense!

thats tough he is being selfish. i know how hard it is to love someone and they want to be friends yet their actions are different. he may be saying i do not want to commit. are you still lovers are either of you in other relationships. be his friend without the lovemaking and flirting see how much he really wants to be your friend. he may be afraid for the relationship to fail and to lose you that way good luck

(in my opinion) He is boosting his ego...that is all. He is playing with you.... He wants you to be there for him when he needs assurance. And if all else fails (meaning he cant find someone 'better')then you are still there waiting for his call.
Firstly work out what you want to do.
Whether you want to be his friend or not, be honest with him and tell him that he is sending mixed messages and you want it to stop one way or the other.

ask him what he really wants? why he says not to build up hopes but thats what he is doing!! if he doesnt want u to have hopes that things might work out then tell him not to talk to u nemore and dont talk with him..thats juz too hurting to keep talkin to him..

I would let him know that right now is not a good time to try and be friends. Maybe in the future. You need time to heal and he needs to be aware of your feelings.

then you stop talking to him and stop accepting his phone calls . Then cut all ties to him and find yourself someone else . he obviously is using you to make someone else jealous . Dont give in . Good luck .
