I want a motorcycle. My parents say it's way too dangerous and they'd rather I get a car. When I argue that you also get into accidents in cars but they insist bikes are far more deadly.

Will you help me answers? Or will you side with them? >3>

Their argument is true. ~ When you are involved in an accident on a motorcycle versus one in a car.... you are more likely to be injured. You don't have as much to keep your from being injured actually.... think about it.

I ride a motorcycle and it's not the operator of the bike that people need to watch out for most of the time. It's the idiots who don't look before they change lanes, the people who think poorly of bikers and just don't show them any respect on the road.

People are put at risk on a daily basis weather they put themselves at risk or someone else does something stupid causing them to be put at risk..... Your parents, as long as your under 18 should have the right to make choices in which they think are best for you. So if they say no motorcycle, you should obey. ~ Now when your 18 or if you are at least 18..... it's your choice and you need to do what you feel is right for you!

I'm siding with your parents on this one, for many reasons.

For one, you don't have enough experience in a CAR yet! The little patches of oil, gravel, and water that do nothing to a car can easily take you down on a bike. Those little fender-benders that do nothing more than raise your insurance rates in a car can KILL you outright.

You need EXPERIENCE to know how to avoid EVERYTHING and EVERYONE ALL THE TIME before considering the completely new (and steep) learning curve of motorcycling.

Besides, insurance for a teen on a motorcycle is stupid high, like $5000+ every year. Are you willing to put out more than the bike is worth every year just in insurance?

And you forgot the most important things: taking an MSF course and wearing FULL gear when you ride. Anything less is suicide, so your parents win this one.

This is idiotic. This question has an actual answer, yet you guys are just making up answers and calling it fact. Not everything is an opinion.

Here is the truth, if anyone cares:

You have a 1 in 802 chance of dying if you are in a motorcycle accident,

You have a 1 in 272 chance of dying if you are in a car accident.

It is way more likely you will dying in a car accident. Feel free to speculate why, but those are the actual facts.

Yes,you are more likely to get into an accident on a motor cycle than in a car.Even if you may not be on the wrong, a driver for example when in trouble and is faced with no choice but to hit either a car on one side or a motor cycle on the other, would most likely go for the later. Also, the speeds that a motor cycle is capable of considering that you are on the open, exposes you to a lot of risks.

Motorcycles offer no protection and require much more concentration to operate and avoid accidents with cars. Motorcycles are not as forgiving as cars are.
It depends on weather you are willing to trade safety for the joy of driving a motorcycle.

I'm not siding with anyone, it's a well known fact that motorcycles are harder to see than cars. Plus you haven't got the protection of being surrounded by a metal cage in the case of an accident!

Sorry but I am on their side. The tendency to race and do stupid things on a motorcycle is far greater than in a car. You are less protected on a motorcycle. Losing control of one is easier as well. Stick to a car until you are older and more experienced .

motorcycles are more dangerous, they don't have fender benders. Use all safety equipment (helmet and leathers no shorts and light weight clothing) road rash hurts. also good boots. Now go out and buy that bike. Bike riding is not a death wish but it is more dangerous than a car. Take a bike riding course if one is offered in your area. ENJOY

You are more likely to have an accident on a motorcycle. Car drivers don`t give enough thought for bikers. Stick to cars and ride bikes off road, Much more fun.

Motorcycles are very difficult to see in traffic. They have a higher fatality rate than cars. Make your second vehicle a motorcycle for your own good.
