I am a 24 year old who has identified herself as an Atheist since age 10 or so. My parents are "Christians" (do not go to church but believe in a higher power), never baptized me, and did not force me to go to church. I had been to bible school with family friends, but none of it made sense to me, even at an early age. I did not, and still don't, see how there is a higher power which created everything, this almighty god that I should be praying to and worrying about every day.

Lately I have been lightly reading up on Satanism, and I am not quite sure but I feel as though I fall more into that category. I may not understand Satanism fully, but it seems based on what I have taken in, that Satanism is basically Atheism but where everything that the person does is because it benefits themselves, through actions lust and thought etc. I am just wondering what the true differences are between the two.

Christians need not reply. Thank you.

Satansim is all about you, for instance a major Satanic holiday is your own birthday. Its about indulging yourself to what you want. One of the main philosophies is that your only here once, so live your life to the fullest. Satansist are unique, not many choose the path, Satan himself walked alone. Which brings up another point. Satanist do not belive in the Christian form of Satan. Rather, he is an archetype that is an example of Satanic philosophy. So when a Satanist says "HAIL SATAN" he is prasing the idea, not the Satan in the Christian bible. Another point, Satanists are not evil, they dont go around kidnapping blonds and raping them or have human sacrifices and stupid stuff like that. But most Satanist do engage in occultic practices, aslong as it benefits you or those who deserve it. You are nice to those who are nice to you. Satanist are sometimes known as the "Alien Elite" Satanist are different, unique, not bound by the constraints of conformity. There are only nine sins, but they are sensable, such as Stupidity and Conformity. Nothing that will restrict you from leading a rewarding and Satanic life. And the easiest way to be a Satanist? Simply start living like one!

Well i am a Satanist and most of the posts that i have seen sound pretty ridiculous. If you read the Satanic Bible by Anton Lavey then you would be what is called an "atheistic satanist" since the word satan is a noun meaning accuser/opposer, not a propper name like most people who know nothing about it think, the "laveyens" consider satan as an archtype in other words they are themselves satans (they are the opposition and they are the accusers) and they believe in no kind of higher power or demons. they consider rituals nothing but pyschodrama that "gets them in the mood" for magical workings.

But not to worry, if you think there is a higher power then there are many different "sects" of satanism. theistic, henotheistic, polytheistic and many more. And if you wish to learn more of Henotheistic Santanism then just let me know, i would be more than happy to inform you.

I am an athethist, just so you know I'm not Christian. My stories same as you, cept I only started 2 yearsago at the age of 11.

Satanism is basically where everyone thinks for themselves and nobody else. EX: We only multiply because we want to survive.
Atheism on the other hand is abut how nobody controls you, but you can care for other people. Ex: We multiply because we actually care for the person.

Cont: Alright, here's a point I brought up in school one time. We had buddhists, Athiests (still can't spell my own religion), and christians, among others. Back when these religions were made, the people who made them said, "I just heard someone talk to me in my head. They told me to do something. I think this is a higher power. I'm going to do it."
Now, if someone did that nowadays, they would be locked in a psych ward and never let out. There are a lot of things that could be true in religions, but a lot of things make no sense at all, and there is no proof that these things were done. And whatever happened to Satanism vs. Atheism question? Now everyone's talking about everything.

How can anyone be anti something and then say they don't acknowledge it. I'm also curious how people think things just happened? As in no patterns in the universes are non exist ant. Why couldn't god just be energy and some dudes figured out how to channel this . I think man has ****** up religion but the ideas were good in most cases. Jesus probably screwed prostitutes because he loved her and drank wine. Man ****** this up. So we have a anti religion and a group who doesn't think that god could possibly exist. Their is more than likely a constant force of whatever that allows the sun to burn and die, only to create a new one. Why couldn't this constant be called god? There, I've pissed everyone off

Firstly, by "Satanism" I assume you are referring to LaVeyan Satanism, rather than theistic Satanism.

Atheism is a position in which the atheist believes there are no deities. Satanism is an atheistic religion, with Satan as a representation of indulgence (rather than the more christian "virtues" of abstinence). Satanism can therefore be described as an expansion of the atheistic viewpoint into a fullblown philosophy, with (very loose) guidelines on how to live.

I must add here that indulgence does not necessarily equate to selfishness. For instance, I take pleasure out of helping my girlfriend, family and friends. So I am still doing something that gives me pleasure, but it also aids others.

Regardless of what many people claim (and what most people here are claiming), Satanists, as a rule, do NOT worship the biblical Satan, nor do they believe in the existance of any kind of supernatural entity.

Most Satanists are just atheists who view Satan as a symbol. Anton LeVay (founder of modern Satanism) didn't believe in god or Satan. He was an atheist.
Unfortunately, some Christians think Satanism is for real and that they actually worship Satan.

There is no parallel between Satanism and Atheism.

Satanism (as the name suggests) follows and worships the ideals and practices of Satan - The Devil. The angel banished from heaven by God.

Atheism believes in none of that nonsense. That there is a natural explanation for everything.

Apart from charity, no-one does something if it doesn't benefit them. Even eating for example, it benefits you because it helps keep you alive.

Whatever books you are reading, they are trying to paint satanism in a nice light and only show you a few watered-down ideologies behind what the believe. Don't be stupid and get sucked into some fad you'll later regret.

Well I seem to have a similar story except I grew up with a gung-ho catholic family, went to church, got baptised, communion, sunday school and all the other catholic brainwashing BS. At about the age of 9 I realized that I was one of the few kids who did not buy into all these biblical stories and I would be the only one crazy enough to ask questions about Adam and Eve and the possibilty of incest (I was quite advanced for my years) instead of keeping my mouth shut and don't question the bible. I mean why should religion teach you to fear god and hell and make you feel guilty about everything at such a young age? Do we really have such awful sins to confess at 8,9 or 10 years old? I believe god was created as an idea to keep mankind in check, just think back a few thousand years earlier mankind did not believe in one all knowing and all powerful god. Th ancient sumerians believed, check that, they knew where they came from. They knew they came from a race of beings called the Annunaki, giant men that came from the heavens(space) to give primitive mankind an evolutionary push towards the modern world. They claim to have learned everything from them; astronomy mathmatics, architecture, laws etc. At this time there was no need for one singular all powerful god. But here's a question for you. Why do you feel the need to belong to an organization? Seriously it doesn't matter one bit. I asked my mother if she was catholic only because her parents were and she reluctantly said yes.Thats not really a good enough reason to choose a faith I told her. She didn't have a choice like most people. I think that Jesus's mission was to get people to to stop worshiping in organized religions that asked for your money. He felt that people could pray wherever and whenever they wanted and that they did not need a middle man to speak to god. Look, the only difference betwen atheism and satanism is the spelling, because when you really think about it they don't really define who you are. I mean, one believes in nothing and the other believes in satan which is also basically nothing because honestly it only exists in our minds and for some reason society deems it important to choose a side. The important thing is to live your life with no regrets, no excess bs or false idols, because when you think about how much religion has caused so much war and hatred and how it has messed up society and the world I really don't see a point in taking part in any of it. I think its better to examine all points of view and learn as much as you can about all religions and cultures and just believe in one person.....Yourself...good luck to you...
