Because religious people here are so poorly-behaved.
Looking at the end of your "question", I find myself doubting your judgment about what is "shallow". God is nonexistent - you should remember that.

Possibilities
1. Because they are board and have nothing better to do.
2. They have a low self esteem and the act of putting others down helps them to feel better.
3. Their fear of what they do not understand causes them to instinctively fight against it.
4. They are mindlessly following the crowd.
5. They have prejudices caused by one reason or another and have let that run their lives.
6. They are just that pathetic.
There could be countless more but I hope this small list helps.

Its because religions continuously put down the way other people live their lives, for being a woman, for being gay and for loads of other things.
Did you know that a woman in an Islamic country can be executed for being raped? They are being unfaithful and that is a sin.
This is the sort of thing that gives religions a bad name.
The basics of religion are ok, love, peace, understanding etc - buts its the hate that they preach against people who do not believe the same things.

Most all religions are just a bunch of hate-filled humans that get together to create laws to have other humans do things like they think. Some like murder, some no. Some like dancing and singing some no. Some like cutting down pine trees [killing something] some no. Some sacrifice virgins [kill something again] some no. Most religions have head gestapos, and when these people become insane with power the whole religion suffers.

Well, because they can. And they believe that this makes them feel superior to others. Each day they must convince their selves that they are smarter then anyone else.
And the more they talk the less intelligent they appear.
It's like a Rosie O'Donnell talking down about Donald Trump.
She wishes she was 1/2 as intelligent as he is.
Btw, most people on here confuse education with intelligence.
Education does not equal intelligence.

Your course is the best one, the better path to take. Unbelievers do not accept that gods exist, any gods, and why they, or anyone, would spend time and energy "putting down" beliefs which, by their own definition, do not exist, is a bit of a mystery to me. I am presently on a personal spiritual journey of discovery which makes me question aspects of Christianity, but I see no reason at all to howl and shout about the beliefs of other human beings.

Most religious organisations are just about profiteering on peoples fears. They need to be exposed as the cults that they are. This way, vulnerable people in society can be protected from them.

You are wrong, there is only one path to greatness. Jesus is the only way, as He said once," I am the way, the truth and the life". It is true that God is merciful but it should not be taken as a means to do what you want. God created us and He is the one who knows how we should behave. I invite you to read the Bible and you'll receive the light.

The other question that should be asked is why people with NO belief or understanding of religion come to this forum at all !
Could it be that they are so shallow that the only way they can fill the void in their lives is to denigrate the faith of others.
God may be merciful but not to those who mock him !

What do you mean by "put down?" Having an intelligent debate about religion is not the same as calling someone fat or ugly. People are too sensitive on this forum and if they don't like what they hear they should stick up for themselves. If you can't back up your beliefs with an intelligent argument it is your own fault, not mine. I have a right to free speech in this country.

TWO of the biggest reasons are Spiritual Ignorance and FEAR.
People who fear anything make excuses for their actions and ways. They can find the answers they need, BUT when they do, do not want to admit that they are wrong, and that is like PLAYING GOD. God is NOT to be feared IF you love Him and try your best to please and serve Him with a loving heart.
