My father in law own his own home improvement business and when he was redoing his friends kitchen they got into that Direct Buy program... He said it cost them $5,000 to join and he even being their contractor was NOT allowed inside, even with a member to help them choose their cabinets/fixture's and such... He also said, that their pricing is not that great deal and the products are lower quality... So, if you have 5k just laying around it can be a good idea,but you can get the same products elsewhere or better.. I'm sorry I don't have first hand experience... Nor 5k just laying around. LOL...
