We live in an age when people don’t seem to take religion as seriously as they used to. All around us, we see all the signs of materialism, greed, anger, and lust. Much of the war, poverty and social ills that are rampant today are due to the clear failures of atheism. Given all the challenges that we find ourselves facing today, it is understandable that some of us might find ourselves asking “Why should I be Hindu?”

The truth is there are many reasons why Hinduism offers us the best way to find the happiness, peace and prosperity that we’re all seeking. This article will only offer a few of these many benefits of the Hindu way of life.

Hinduism (Sanatana Dharma) is the most ancient and respected religion in the world. Due to the spiritual peace, personal empowerment and satisfying lifestyle it offers its followers, Hinduism has survived intact for over 5000 years. It has survived – when many other religions didn’t - because its teachings are time honored and true.

Hindu ideas, philosophy, spirituality, and art have influenced more people in world history than any other religion on earth. Hinduism is the most tolerant, peaceful, and non-fanatical religion. Unlike many other religions, Hinduism isn’t based on blind belief or fanaticism. Rather, it’s based upon your own intelligence in searching for Truth, your personal experience with God, and respect for you as a free person.

In addition to having very rational and fulfilling religious beliefs, Hinduism is also a very practical path that offers us real tools for having more peace and joy in our lives. The meditation practices of Hinduism have been scientifically proven in thousands of studies to reduce stress, depression, anxiety, nightmares, and many other illnesses.

The Hindu diet of vegetarianism has been shown by the entire medical community to be the healthiest and most nutritious diet in the world. The traditional Hindu medical system of Ayurveda is now being studied in many of the top medical colleges in the world. And Yoga, the Hindu path of self-realization, is now practiced by tens of millions of people outside of India.

Of all the many reasons why you should be Hindu, however, the most important one is because it is through Hinduism (Sanatana Dharma) that you can have a personal experience of God. When God is placed in the center of your personal life and your family life, there is no challenge, no problem, no illness, and no difficulty that you cannot face with courage. Hinduism is the most direct path there is for knowing God’s love and grace in your life.

The members of International Sanatana Dharma Society (ISDS) encourage you to embrace your Hindu heritage with pride and renewed vigor. Hinduism is God’s gift to you and to our suffering world...
