For you Nissan experts out there:

I am thinking of buying a used 2002/2003 nissan altima. i prefer it over the camry and the accord, because just about everyone i know has had or has one of those.

i heard the altimas at this time were recalled a lot for some problems. should i be worried?

also i heard the interior looks cheap and the plastic sucks or something. anyone care to elaborate?

so bottom line is: is this car worth it? cause it seems cheaper than accords/camrys for the same year/mileage.

Nissans are reliable as Honda/Toyota, but they do have some negatives:

1) The interior in the 2002-2006 Altimas is horrendous. The dash is HUGE in depth from the bottom of the front window out towards the front seat occupants. A very unattractive dash design, along with the 350z style gauge pods. All the materials feel MUCH cheaper than what is in a comparable Accord/Camry.

2) The resale value is nowhere no as good as Honda/Toyotas of the same vintage.

3) The exterior also looks quite cheap, especially the clear "Altezza" style talelights.

The only pro is the powerful 3.5L V6. The 4-cylinder models are not even worth looking at.

Get the 3.5 liter V-6 nissan technicians almost do no work on the altimas with that engine. And owners are much happier with there V-6 cars.

Nissans are as good as teh toyotas and accords but the interiors are too cheap and not up to the mark....they start ratting after a few months...........my advise.....if you want a reliable car go for the camry its built like a tank....solid and no hassles............

You were misinformed. The Altima will not lock itself when you exit the vehicle you have to hit the button on the passanger or driver door for it to lock. Some people just act like they know what they are talking about. But on the other hand the system will relock itself if unlock you vehicle and do not enter it within 30 seconds... that might be what he/she was talking about.

As someone who owns a 32 year old Datsun (Now Nissan)....Cedric, and uses it as daily transportation, I can say that the Nissan product is THE BEST on the market bar none. I am not a one eyed brand man, but having owned half a dozen Nissan and Datsun cars, they really are excellent- I have yet to drive one I didnt like and if youre comparing it to a Toyota, I have owned Toyota's and you really are paying for the name and nothing else. Nissan engines are relaible- regardless of the engine or vehicle they are in and their handling and inovation makes them a market leader.

Go for it you wont look back!!
