I smoke, and I am a Christian. Does that make me a "DEVIL"?

Where in the Gospel did Jesus say that a smoker was unsavable?

I'm sorry, I wasn't called 'a devil' , I was called THE Devil.

Salvation is not based on behavior, if it was we would still be following the ancient law system of the Jewish religion. Paul tells us that everything is permisslbe to us, however not everything is benifitial. Your salvation is cemented in the sacrafice of Jesus Christ alone, its a free gift, nothing changes that... not even smoking a cigarette

I was a hard core biker with many vices. When I finally realized I needed God in my life an d I wanted to be a good Christian. I prayed that night that Jesus take away all my desire's to smoke, curse and stop my gambling habit. I truly believed He would. I woke up the next morning, always lighting up a cig. But no desire and as I started my day I felt so different. I had quit cussing every other word, no desire for a cigarette and I felt love for everyone. I am led to believe people who pray are not believing God will answer that prayer. Or Satan whispers, God didn't help you, light up that cigarette that you know you really want. And right away instead of believing God took away that sin, you believe the Devil....that is why you still smoke and have your other vices, you won't give them to Jesus.....

Dear Tuberoot,

Yes a smoker can be a Christian. Some will say that our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. But then you get into that gray area where then is it Un-Christ like to drink a soda, or coffee, etc.

i think when it comes to smoking the more important thing to explore is-- what is the motive behind it. Some people smoke to relieve stress and i would say Christ would probably want you to rely on him more than relying upon the marlboro man. Remember the Lord always looks at our heart. Many people smoked before they met Christ as well and it's a tough habit for them to break. i have a very dear friend who's parents are missionaries and i love this brother to death- because he struggles with smoking- but when he goes on retreats he asks me to fast and pray for him to fight his urge to smoke. He has a desire to quit- but it's hard, and i'd rather him be going to church and growing closer to Christ than to make him feel condemned-- in time as we grow closer to Christ- there are things that we push out of our lives.

i think one thing that smoking also does too is it can limit you in your service to the Lord. For example a lot of churches might not be cool with a Sunday school teacher lighting up a cigarette after class.

That being said- in the gospel it no where says smoking will send you to hell. The only thing that can keep a person from heaven is not believing in Jesus Christ.

Hope that helps. Kindly,

Nickster

Christians should not smoke, because they are damaging their bodys. Sure someone mentioned driving could also kill you but, thats just a chance, a could happen. Smoking on the other hand does affect you from the start, and of course it wont kill you right then, but it will eventually.

And since Christians love their neighbors, smoking is also not safe for others, in other words "second hand smoking".

I'm a christian and I smoke too.
That dose not mean you are not saved although it may set a bad example for someone else you may be trying to bring to Christ. It is a hard thing to put down and I am not proud that I smoke, I have been smoking for more than 30 years and wish I never picked them up. As far as what the Bible says we should treat our body's as a temple, our body's are a gift from God and we should not mistreat them. What really bothers me about my smoking the most is when I'm trying to bring someone to God, It seems when I'm doing that people that don't smoke judge you as a christian and I may be turning someone away by that. I know that I'm saved and Jesus laid everything down for me and I feel guilty that I have not been able yet to lay that down for him when I should be able and willing to lay everything of this world down for him.

Sure you can be a Christian and smoke.

Most people say you should look after the body God gave you. Good advice I guess, but I think they should consider this: Do they eat junk food? Do they excercise as much as they should? Do they drive a car? (and possibly die in an accident)

Don't worry too much about what people say. Some things are acceptable to our society, and other things are unacceptable. But I guarentee God doesn't look down on ciggarette smokers.

I guess its to do with looking after the body you were given, by poisoning it with cigarettes etc, you throw your gift back in gods face.
