Im interested in what people think about Jesus and what you think about his death and resurrection. Christianity hangs on this for it's truth. What do you think about it?

As for his existence and death, these three things agree: (1) eye witness accounts by gospel writers (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John), (2) credible and famous historians whom we trust with other data about the ancient world confirmed these accounts (Pliny the Younger is a Roman historian and governor; Flavius Josephus is a Jewish historian who became a member of the Roman aristocracy; Tacitus was a senator and historian of the Empire), (3) archaeological data including the latest findings confirm all the above (actual locations of Calvary and the Sepulchre among other things). If only one archaeological finding confirmed the existence of Troy, once thought to be a myth, what more the abundance of Christian archaeological sites?

As for his actual death, we can add to the above the fact that his executioners were Roman soldiers. They were the best soldiers of antiquity who knew the business of killing.

As for his actual rising from the dead, we can add the daring and boldness of those who preached about the Resurrection, and about seeing him alive. (The gospel reports 500 who saw him after death). If they were creating a myth or had certain doubts, the great number of Christian martyrs would not have died for their belief.

I don't believe Christianity actually depends upon these unverifiable events but on the principles that Jesus espoused . one need not taste the fork to appreciate the
spiritual and moral food for it's worth . And there are other sources that preceded and will follow with similar ideas that are good and beneficial to a good life . Even Jesus was reported to have said so and the historical accounts show evidence from Confucius of the golden rule as well as moral precepts five hundred and fifty years prior from Buddha . Live and learn . Goodness doesn't hang on anyone person except the thoughts and actions of each individual.
peace

The power of Christianity IS the cross. And, yes I do believe in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

There is more evidence for the existence of Jesus than there is for the existence of many other historical figures, and the Bible is the one of the most authenticated works of literature ever authored.

You'd think that by now, nearly 2,000 years of blistering scrutiny and criticism later, that someone would have completely destroyed and discredited it...hasn't happened, has it?

My faith makes sense, too...take a closer look, read His Word and find out more...

If you only look at that singular event without knowing anything about the Old Testament beliefs and practices or the prophecies of a Messiah or what must take place to fulfill the promises of God then you will miss it completely.

Yes it really happened. The event and Resurrection are more validated then Abraham Lincoln or any other historical figure you could quote.

Yes, Jesus really lived, died and came back to life.

Jesus was born of the virgin Mary. He lived a life entirely without sin. He died on the cross for the sins of the world. On the third day He rose again victorious over sin and death so that all who place their faith in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

It's been speculated that jesus was not real, but a metaphor for spiritual awakening.
I think he probably did live, and was probably executed. So many people were crucified those days.
But, I don't think he came back to life or was the "son" of god.

The reason they wrote that he was dead for three days is because back then, they believed that if you were dead for three days, there was no coming back, no chance of it just being a coma or something. (and the body probably would get bloated or rot or something)
Jesus never said he was god.

I don't believe that because there is zero historical evidence that Jesus ever lived.

None of the historians at the time mention Jesus. There are NO first hand accounts of Jesus. The new testament was written after he supposedly lived. Evidence that demands a verdict. There was no Christ! Christianity is a religion built on a myth.

Actually all religions are built on myths.

Christianity survives because of the transforming power of the words of Christ, not because of his dying and staying dead or his dying and reviving. Had he been born of a prostitute and stayed physically dead, it wouldn't have changed anything. It was the example of his life and the power of his words that is the foundation of Christianity. That is the real miracle. All else is commentary.

Jesus was a real person. He was executed. It's my opinion that he never came back to life, I don't believe that coming back to life is possible, for anyone, also given that I don't believe in God.
