I read a great book about this topic called The Appocalypse Code by Hank Hanagraff. Hank states that Christians who believe in the rapture are misinterpreting scripture. Hank is a Christian and believes in the second comming of Christ, however Hank believes that most verses Christians use to prove the rapture are false. It was a very good read for a different perspective on the issue.

Ah the good old Fundamentalists they really believe that the so called rapture is for them only because only they are worth rewarding, this smacks of religious elitism if ever I saw it, not only that but they have even doctored the scriptures to make this silly rapture seem a reality, in fact Thessalonians actually is refering to the final judgement of all the nations and not some elite little select band.

Actually some christians think the whole rapture theory is crap. See Pastor Arnold Murray. He has some crazy ideas of his own, however.

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 (New International Version)
The Coming of the Lord
13Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. 14We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15According to the Lord's own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. 18Therefore encourage each other with these words.
The preachers do not lie about the event what will happen every soon. I hope that you are ready for the coming of Christ!!

Great Question -You are a searcher for the truth
The word rapture is not in the bible; however the word means to be snached away.
The gathering together into the barnes of God is considered to be the rapture.
Matthew 13:24-30 (KJV)
Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: [25] But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. [26] But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. [27] So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? [28] He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? [29] But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. [30] Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

Please read Revelations 7:1 After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth so no wind could blow on the earth, on the sea, or on any tree. 7:2 Then1 I saw another angel ascending from the east,2 who had3 the seal4 of the living God. He5 shouted out with a loud voice to the four angels who had been given permission6 to damage the earth and the sea:7 7:3 “Do not damage the earth or the sea or the trees until we have put a seal on the foreheads of the servants8 of our God.” 7:4 Now9 I heard the number of those who were marked with the seal,10 one hundred and forty-four thousand, sealed from all11 the tribes of the people of Israel:12
7:5 From the tribe of Judah, twelve thousand were sealed,
from the tribe of Reuben, twelve thousand,
from the tribe of Gad, twelve thousand,
7:6 from the tribe of Asher, twelve thousand,
from the tribe of Naphtali, twelve thousand,
from the tribe of Manasseh, twelve thousand,
7:7 from the tribe of Simeon, twelve thousand,
from the tribe of Levi, twelve thousand,
from the tribe of Issachar, twelve thousand,
7:8 from the tribe of Zebulun, twelve thousand,
from the tribe of Joseph, twelve thousand,
from the tribe of Benjamin, twelve thousand were sealed.
7:9 After these things I looked, and here was13 an enormous crowd that no one could count, made up of persons from every nation, tribe,14 people, and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb dressed in long white robes, and with palm branches in their hands. 7:10 They were shouting out in a loud voice,
“Salvation belongs to our God,15
to the one seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
7:11 And all the angels stood16 there in a circle around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they threw themselves down with their faces to the ground17 before the throne and worshiped God, 7:12 saying,
“Amen! Praise and glory,
and wisdom and thanksgiving,
and honor and power and strength
be to our God for ever and ever. Amen!”
7:13 Then18 one of the elders asked19 me, “These dressed in long white robes – who are they and where have they come from?” 7:14 So20 I said to him, “My lord, you know the answer.”21 Then22 he said to me, “These are the ones who have come out of the great tribulation. They23 have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb! 7:15 For this reason they are before the throne of God, and they serve24 him day and night in his temple, and the one seated on the throne will shelter them.25 7:16 They will never go hungry or be thirsty again, and the sun will not beat down on them, nor any burning heat,26 7:17 because the Lamb in the middle of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to springs of living water, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”27
God Bless and read again from verse 13 till the end if you missed it the first time. What about 1 Thessalonians 4:13 Now we do not want you to be uninformed,14 brothers and sisters,15 about those who are asleep,16 so that you will not grieve like the rest who have no hope. 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, so also we believe that17 God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep as Christians.18 4:15 For we tell you this by the word of the Lord,19 that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will surely not go ahead of those who have fallen asleep. 4:16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven with a shout of command, with the voice of the archangel,20 and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 4:17 Then we who are alive, who are left,21 will be suddenly caught up22 together23 with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will always be with the Lord. 4:18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.
Love in Jesus Name
