Depends on what type of Chef you strive to be.
I have been a Chef for 20 years..I think I'm quite good now, but I am still learning all the time. I never feel good enough!!!
Its not something (imo) that can be taught over a short time.
I studied at college for 2 years to get my Qualifications, but I didn't learn all that much until I started working in a proper running kitchen, and working with other chefs (good and bad)
I probably learnt most of my stuff from some great Chefs over the years.
But that's just me.
If you are happy to just plod along, get a job in a branded pub and they'll put you through an NVQ....but IMO, that does not make you a chef!

A real chef? I worked for Chef David for a while. He spent 4 years at the Culinary Institute of America, but then had to do more outside work, and then go for his Master Chef designation. So even though he was Chef, it was like an internship to gain knowledge and practical experience before he had to go before the tests and the panel. It's almost like having to do a dissertation. I think he was at about 11 years of education and work and still was working on the MC designation to get credentials.

And when you even graduate from the CIA or Johnson & Wales and get the diploma, you still don't start out as the head chef. There's always more work.

Some people are born chefs. When we talk from point of view of a professional qualification that IIHM/IIHTM offer then it is a regular 3 yearDiploma / Degree course run by a number of institutes in India. Then, there is Food Crafts Institute Jaipur, that offers special chef/catering diploma courses and in a way it is better than some run of the mill institutes operating from dingy quarters. Main thing is your taste, talent, patience and inclination, which are upper most to be a perfect chef.

there are so many different factors to take into account.
but basically, if you are willing to work hard and learn as much as possible, you can start to make it up the career ladder in maybe only 2-3 years.

depends how quick at learning you are and how dedicated
If you go to college to get basic training then get a job and train as you go as it is better if you get on job training plus you get used to the long hours as well it also has its compensations as well
