If your patient is a grown up, approach in nice manner and say that you will be drawing blood for some investigations the doctor had ordered. Explain briefly that a torniquette will be applied and a hand must be clutched at once when you prick the vein with the needle. It hurts a bit but it won't take too long. Tell the patient not to look if it scares him. An adult patient most commonly has an idea of what will be happening.
If your patient is a child, using a doll model to explain the procedure would be an advantage.
After drawing the blood, the after care should be explained to keep the dressings applied on extraction site and the need to apply mild pressure if some bleeding is noted.

I know.
If the patient is some stuck up guy, who doesnt liek to be wrong, start using scientific words that he doesnt understand but pretends to. Then he will have to go through with it or admit that he's wrong.

If he isnt, then just say it t ohim.

Good luck
