"everything in the bible is true, and some of it even happened"
The bible was written by man, by many different authors over thousands of years of oral tradition, it's not the literal details that we must focus on, but the meaning and message of the stories. We need to focus on WHO wrote the passage WHEN was it written, WHO was it written for and WHY was it written. Once we learn what context the passages were written, then we can fully understand it and make our own ideas and opinions.

Uh no, that is not a contradiction...Adam and Eve had (according to the historian Josephus) thirty-three sons and twenty-three daughters. Cain married either a sister or a close relative. It wasn't until Moses time (some 2500 years later) that God forbid the marriage of close relatives. What are some other areas where 'the Bible constantly contradicts itself'?

It does seem a little suspect. You could argue that the reader needs to fill in the blanks that the people all came from adam & eve, but then it should say that. The book goes through great lengths later on to bore the heck out of ya when you read stuff like "Abraham took another wife whose name was Keturah. She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishback, and Shuah. Jokshan was the father of Sheba and Dedan. The sons of Dedan were Ashurim, Letushim... etc., etc., etc. Where's the lineage in the beginning? I'm not saying that's definitive proof that it's all wrong, just saying that it's confusing sometimes. If we're to take so much of it literally, why is that important step left to assumption?

"Faith is sufficient unto Faith"
No one within the Christian tradition can in fact answer this question, that I am aware of. I am a Sufi and I have been given the answer to this question. It is said that Sufism goes back through the linage of the Prophets to the time of Adam (PBUH). I can say this, Adam (PBUH) and Eve had several children prior to the fall. Before the fall Adam (PBUH) and Eve did not have physical bodies, they had light bodies. In that form they had several sets of twins. They were not composed of D.N.A. until they all took physical bodies. They were spread over the globe on different land masses. Thus the different cultures and races according to the different climates and conditions.
That is what I have been told. That has been passed from teacher to student for many, many, many generations.
If I have said anything in error I ask your forgiveness and the forgiveness of God!

Yeah.. If adam and eve were the first people then they would have had to populate the whole earth by themselves. Which means there was a whole lot of incest. And then if you go to the Noah's flood story he and his family had to repopulate the earth so even today we are all related and everyone is in an incestuous relationship. Lol. Those stories are crazy. The bible isn't real.. it was written by man

That's the thing you don't need proof to have "faith". I respect all those that have the ability to blindly believe in their cause, I for one do not. The Bible in my opinion is not an absolute truth, it is a book written by man to help man better live life, a set of morals if you will. The bible has hundreds of contridictions, but faith has no base, except the people that practice it.
Peace.

"All these other people" are the sons of Adam and Eve, Cain's brothers and sisters. So there was a little incest in the beginning....who cares. :) it just goes to show that we are all related to each other, and we are all sons and daughters of god anyways so we are all like, doubly related.

What it says is, "Genesis 4:16-17 And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. (17) And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch."
Notice in (17) it does not say he got married. It says he had sex (plain english) with his wife and had a son named Enoch. Don't add words.

You can not accept God by trying to apply petty concepts like logic and consistency to the bible. To become one with God, you must push aside the gift for rational thought that the Lord has kindly, if uselessly, blessed you with. Instead, just sit quietly, rub your chin pensively, and utter "Amen" every time someone says something pious sounding. Easy.
