Onerous is used when u describe something that requires effort

Onerous duties
This is an onerous task.

as to Merriam Webster Online Dictionary it is e.g. used in:
an onerous task
but also an onerous contract meaning to have legal obligations that outweigh the advantages
I do not use the word but I am no native speaker so my vacabulary is kind of limited
