Also, if you were his kid, would you call child protective services?

Abbas,

If he really thought the kid would get out of it alive, it wasn't much of a test was it?

Jephtha daughter is a lesser known but nastier story. The dude told god if he gave him victory in battle, he would sacrifice the first thing that crossed his treshhold to greet him when he got home. It was his daughter. He let her say good bye to her friends for a couple of weeks, then he killed her. she should have dropped a rock on his head when he was asleep.

ajgr,

some people still think they see god, and I don't think there's a fool-proof godometer to tell when it's mental.

For you and all the Bible people, you got to rent the movie FRAILTY, about a single dad who sees an angel who tells him to kill demons disquised as humans--and he gets his preteen sons to help him.

God didn't have him killed. You see, at that point is when Abraham decided to trust God, not much before. Abraham knew that God promised him future generations and Isaac was the child who he would do it through. So this is when Abraham showed that he finally got it:
Genesis 22
5 He said to his servants, "Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you."

So Abraham did what I need to do, act on the faith that God gave me. What He promised He will make good on. He's trustworthy.

Even Christians miss this one.

When God spoke to Abraham, he walked with him. Since God doesn't walk among us anymore, I think I would go for a psych evaluation first.

As a kid, esp. in the biblical sense, you're supposed to honor your parents. That blind love and innocence can lead to some pretty nasty things, but the kid won't call CPS. His nanny or babysitter, a close neighbor, or teacher would.

No, I don't think God will test me or anyone. Not in this life time. The religion of God is completed with the coming of Islam. It's our duty as human beings to follow the scriptures written down and not not just lips service only.I believe, but what does your heart says-what does your lips says-and what your actions are to be a true believer.Islam is the way to heaven because it's teaches us to worship the true and only GOD and to him we seek his guidance and his mercy.

If I heard voices I would have checked myself into the psych ward before it got to the point where I could hurt my child.

Why Abraham? Use Jephthah for the story so they don't have an out. He did have to sacrafice his kid.

If you read it properly Abraham did not have to kill his son, in fact when he went up the mountain he said to those who travelled with him, wait here the Boy and I will return.

It was about obedience
