it's ok to go against your parents. Your parents are people too, they're not infallible, their beliefs may not be absolutely correct. What you have to do is find the right belief for you to live your life by.

Hi I'm a christian, but unlike you I wasn't raised in a christian family. I didn't know I could have a real living relationship with Jesus until the moment I met him. If you are not 'feeling' anything, that's ok. Ask God to show you the truth, I'm only guessing but it sounds like you haven't had a real experience, spiritually, of Jesus through the Holy Spirit. Maybe you need to break away from your parents a little and try a lively church? If the church you attend is a little dry, why not check out some others? I can recommend the new frontiers group of churches. www.newfrontiers.xtn.org
As for the 'little' event of Jesus' death, please read this link which will explain the reason for what Jesus did.

Finally, there is an excellent book for your age group which puts it in perspective wonderfully, it's called, 'the shock of your life,' and will tell you what you need to hear.

The real question is are you saved. Perhaps you are confused because you have been raised in a religion with no living God. That's how I was raised. My parents made us go to church to learn to be good people and lead a moral life but the truth of the gospel never was preached in a real way. Christianity is not just a story about some guy that was good. It's about a God that loves so much that He would die for you because it's the only way He can have a personal relationship with you. Just the fact that this one person is still talked about should be enough to tell you that there was something different about Jesus. He was a nobody, peasant, carpenter who should have lived and died with no remembrance of his life. But the fact is that is not all He was. He was God incarnate living on earth in a human body in order to die for sin so man could be justified even though they are sinners. To some this will be foolishness but to others the ultimate words of life.

Maybe you should explore spiritualism which is more a way of life than a religion. Spiritualist still believe in God, or the Divine Spirit and some of us believe in Jesus. What the spiritualist church does is accept people whatever their religion. Hope you find the right one for you but don't think you are going against your parents as they have their belief and you have yours and they should respect that.

A religion is nothing more than a set of spiritual beliefs for me, but for some it is more. Everyone has to pick what is right for them and no one can pick for them. I used to be a Christian but then as I saw them commit more and more horrors that to all that is apparent to me went against the very IDEA of Jesus, I became Agnostic. I believe in a higher power, but not the one depicted by Christianity. The point is that in almost everyone's life at one point or another, you will question your faith, your existence, and if they are all right. You'll never know who is right, no one has proof, no one has any real answers, but what they all have is something to offer. It could be enlightenment, happiness, or even hope. Only you can pick what feels right to you and under no circumstances should you ever feel like your going against your parents.
Peace.

Your parents love and care about you, and you should honor what they have to say for that reason alone. That does not mean that you "have to" believe as they do, but you should give them the benefit of the doubt, and at least explore their beliefs. You may find they could be right.
You have to find the truth for yourself... What do you believe? Which one is right? No one else can do this for you. If you believe that Jesus was just a man and do not know how His being crucified affects your life, then you really do not know what Christianity is all about. There are other religions, ways that man tries to reach God, but in Christianity God is reaching for man.
Jesus makes the exclusive claim that He is the way, the truth and the life... that no one can come to God except through Him. Being agnostic for many years, I explored several other beliefs and philosophies, and eventually found the claim of Christ to be true. Whatever you do, be truthful to your parents, and to yourself.

Please keep in mind that this is only my opinion, and i have found that it has worked for me. Therefore, in sharing my experience, strength and hope....
For me, i had to simplify everything to the bare basics. And for me, that meant that there either was a god or there wasnt. I choose to believe that there is a Divine Being, so in stating that , i had to accept that God is Everything or God is Nothing.
For me, all roads lead to the Divine, and it is up to you to enlarge your spiritual life. That means seeking out what YOUR beliefs are, not your parents, not your friends, but what is right for you.
You do not have to be part of an organized religion to be spiritual. I have heard it said that Religion is for those who are afraid of going to hell, Spirituality is for people who have already been there.
Continue to seek out truth, you need not feel guilt or shame in finding what is right for you, nor are you going against your parents. And no, there are several religions, faiths, and beliefs that respect others beliefs.
Perhaps a good place to start for you is a book by Iyanla Vanzant: "One Day My Soul Just Opened UP"
It helps you distinguish your basic core beliefs, and how to honor not only yourself, but the divine that is in us all, as well as some very good basic principles to live by.
I hope you find what it is you seek. If i can be of any help, feel free to email me.
Blessed Be!

I feel your pain buddy! I was raised the same; my family is Catholic, so it's all blood and damnation over here!... And to top it off I studied Philiosphy of Religion which qustions the existance of God, so I became quite confussed!
I would say that the main teaching is to love and respect each other... Forgive and forget which is the hardest thing to do in this world... teach other the way you would want to be treated... Hope that helps

Religion is not faith. Religion is a group of people who have the same faith. But before you try to decide on a religion, you need to talk to the only one who can help you. And that is God. Pray for guidance and understanding, listen and God will let you know what church to go to. Go to a quiet place where no one will bother you. Talk to God and tell Him about your confusion. Wait and listen for His answer. It may not be in the form you would understand now, But when He answers, you will know. But you have to be diligent and trust that God will help you, because if you don't believe that He will help you than you won't know when He does. And yes every religion does believe that they are right. Just trust God to help you, not other peoples ideas of what is right.

Don't try to believe in anything if your heart's not into it. You don't have to have a specific religion. I myself am agnostic, and it's a wonderful thing to be. I feel so free of religious limitations and it's great to have an open mind. This does mean that if I saw a religion that made perfect sense to me, that I would try it. Agnosticism might or might not work for you, but if you're part of a religion you don't agree with, you're pretty much agnostic anyway.
