they're treating you in a way you don't want to be treated?
The Golden Rule is to treat others the way you like to be treated.

If someone treats you bad does that mean they're just asking for it back? Should that mean I treat them poorly?

Or is it to just one's view? No matter how other want to be treated you still treat them how you want to.

But if everyone's treating each other they want to be treated how can they actually get it?

It doesn't matter how someone else acts. We are to treat others the way we would want them to treat us. Sometimes it's VERY hard. But that's what we have to do, if others are to see Christ in us. There are people, who, the only Jesus they will ever see, is the Jesus in you.

It means if you want to be treated with respect you treat others with respect. Not everyone will treat you the way you want to but, it still means you should treat them that way!

The Lord never said that people would treat you good, because you treated them good. In fact, some of them will repay you with evil. But the point is to walk like Jesus did in unconditional love towards everyone showing that you are truly born of God. If people see you walk in unconditional love they will see the Christ in you. Also, if you so love, it will come back to you. Maybe not from the same person but it will come back. Also, there is a scripture in Proverbs which says, "He who refreshes others, will himself be refreshed".

To me the saying "Treat others as you would want to be treated" is simply an ecourangement for people to treat people fairly and respectively. No one wants to be name-called, disrespected, blah blah. Therefore, you simply treat everyone how you wish them to treat you... regardless if they treat you like dirt.

It's just a saying to help promote the good in people.

The golden rule says- "do unto others as you would have them do unto you"- it does not say- do unto others as they do unto you. There is a huge difference here. You would not want to be treated badly- so treat others with respect, and love.- no matter how others treat you.

First it doesn't say, treat people the way they treat you, or do unto others before they do unto you. It says to "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." In other words, if you would like to be treated with respect, then you are to treat people that way because that is the way you would like to be treated.

Excellent question. It is very difficult, treating people with kindness when all they can return is rudeness. But really, I think it is the best thing to do, even though it is so very very hard. I fail at it often.

One consolation is I imagine it really ticks some people off when they are being jerks and all they get is a smile in return. I think sometimes people really want a fight, and practically implode when they don't get one.

Do unto others as you have them do unto you.
You are supposed to be strong and listen to the Lord. Yes, it is hard, if you are being beaten r u supposed to stand there & take it..no, you are not.
I asked my father this once & he told me that God gave us all a mind to know the difference.
