I HATE HOW PEOPLE THINK ITS FOR ATTENTION!!! People who cut have deeper issues than cutting. There is usually something going on in their life that they use cutting as a way to get a release from it. I know what its like to be at that last desperate moment where you dont know what to do anymore. i feel for those people because I am one of them. And not all people who cut are emo either. im just a regular girl who you would never guess has this problem. Cutting is wrong and shouldnt be the way people chose to get rid of their pain but its hard to stop once you start. I feel for you out there.

Normally this is a cry for help or sympathy. Too many kids have been doing this, only 5% actually want to kill themselves. 45% have serious emotional problems that need to be dealt with accordingly. The other 50% have attention issues. They cut their wrists to get attention from their parents and friends.

I think they are hurting bad inside, and they are screaming out for help, and going about it in a way that is very destructive. Please try to get help if you are the one doing this, or if it is someone else, please try to encourage them to see a professional counselor skilled in this area. There may be people on Yahoo Answers with the skills, but honestly you don't know the skills of the people answering your questions.
I think it's like acting out - a control struggle - something you have control over. It'll take some time to work all this out.

I don't. A single characteristic is not enough to judge an entire person on.
Some people do it for attention. Some people do it from depression. Some people do it, believe it or not, because they enjoy it.
Who am I, or anyone else, to infere someone's reasoning for something without asking them? And even if I know the reasoning, who am I to judge its validity?

depends..some people have real problems and need real help...and some people treat it like a popularity craze and a way to get attention...
but contrary to popular belief, cutting is not just b/c people are stupid and just want attention...people who seriously cut usually dont even tell anyone, its a way to get out their mental pain by replacing it with physical pain. its not something to make fun, those people need help.
cutters are not suicidal...if they were suicidal they would have done it and killed themselves...cutters is a different type of disorder

Specifically, I think "hey, me too." Only not recently, so I've just got scars. Other than that, it's none of anyone's business but their own, and the people who care about them, because it is an indication of serious emotional pain.

I think they need to release some enkephalins and endorphins(feel good chemicals) to deal with stress. That person should also seek professional help and preferably someone who's approach is "affect management"~~~ this way they can help that person deal more effectively with their emotional life!

It makes me pity them. People cut because they feel they have no control over their life. With cutting they have control, they choose to do it, when to do it, and where.

They feel hopeless and alone, and it's their silent cry for help.
I've been there. The scars are there to remind me.
