I recently graduated H.S. & decided to find a part-time job. Needless to say I was quite desperate and was applying everywhere, I quit my last job because I moved away. Bank jobs called me back for interview after interview but there was no 3rd call. =( So I accepted a job at a very large company working in their food court for $11.00/hr. It is very excellent pay considering all my past jobs were $7.40/hr. But I am soo embarrassed of what they have had me doing, they don't allow me to handle cash until 3 months (now it is a probationary period), so instead I just wipe down tables, sweep/mop floors, change their huge trash bins, help grab orders, and roll hot dogs and do a bunch of other stuff. The only thing i hate is being out in the food court/lobby picking up people's trash, People look at me, although some say GOOD JOB and YOU WORK TOO HARD. but I seen a family that are related by marriage to me and I was so embarrassed I put my head down. What do you think??

The company is great and has lots of advancement opportunites into their Pharmacy, Photo Lab, Front End, etc. it is great with paid holidays and etc. But I don't like to be seen by people I know such as distant family members. I smile to strangers as if I enjoy working there. What do you think is wrong with me?
Where do you work, and do you enjoy it? Have you ever worked at a place where you disliked?

--I am going to attend college as a full-time student in the fall and study pharmacy. I feel so uncomfortable about the job, I never done sweeping and picking up trash the way I do at my job, it sucks with so many eyeballs looking at you.

I dont know anybody thats happy with their job and that is because they choose not to be. I think you got a good job and your freakin nuts if you quit you have an opportunity to move up in time. Stop worrying about what other people think their dissaproval only highlights their ignorance. have fun with it enjoy it not only will you feel better about yourself but your employer will see your positive energy which in return will get you a promotion. by the way people will respond to positive energy with positive energy so next time you see people you know dont hang your head instead ask them how there day is going and tell them it was really nice to see them.

My Dear...
Just out of High School, 11 Bucks an hour and your emberassed?
They are checking you out, just keep working hard.
A place of buisness is not just going to trust you from day one.
Ive had many jobs in my life, and was never emberassed about anything ive done.
Although i do regret not attending college full time, but that just wasent a possibility.
But still, ive done well...Nice house, car, insane dog etc..lol
Whatever you do in life. even if its just a stepping stone, do it well..
If your doing janitorial work for the time being..Be the best Janitor you can be..etc. etc..
The object is, to be noticed as a person than can be relied upon without question.
You most likely will have many jobs in the future, and some will be bad as far as not appreciating you.
If thats the case just move on when the opportunity is available, but never and i mean (Never!) by any means feel bad about about what you do, as long as your doing the best
you can.
Look around and see if there is anything youd like to do, if you see something that you might enjoy, try and find out what you can do to help you break into that field.
College or whatever...
Your young, dont be discouraged!
One last note on being the best at whatever job you do.
When this idea is followed, there is no guilt and easily shows you what type of people your working for.
By this i mean, if your treated poorly, but know your doing a great job...Go straight to their jugular verbally, if its a good place of employment they will back off so they dont loose you, and show a little more respect next time. If not, they may fire you, who cares? Just move on. Never accept abuse!
Most wont agree with me on this issue, but its worked well for me..Gets rid if the B.S. Jobs..
Good luck, and God Bless!

Nothing wrong with good honest work, it isn't even dirty work. I have cleaned bathrooms in factories, motels, apartment buildings and a mental hospital and sometimes mental patents would try using them while we were cleaning. I wasn't embarrassed at all someone has to do it and it paid the bills.
You have a nice job, pretty clean, nice people around most of the time and it is a stepping stone not a career for you. You could be working as a nurses aid in a nursing home wiping more than tables, or changing diapers in a day care nursery. Those are jobs that need done too and people have no reason to be ashamed to do those jobs if they earn their pay and are kind to people who depend on them.
If you were doing things that were against your morals or ethics you would have reason to be ashamed of yourself, you don't have any reason as long as you are doing good honest work.

Get over yourself! Hold your head up high. At least you got a job. Do what you got to do to get where you want to be. Are you in college? If not, you better be considering it or you will be doing Sh*ity jobs all your life. We all have had a bad job but it pays you. So be thankful for that. Later in life people will be able to see the fruits of your labor. And you will too. You can also start looking for another job that pays as good. Then you could quit, unless you are willing to take a paycut for your pride. Good Luck!

Make that money, don't let the money make you!

You just finished high school. People are not thinking bad things about you. You are making an honest living. There is nothing wrong with that! I would plan on trying to further my education, at least to Jr. college if not further. That would give you a bit more time to break into the working world, and would probably increase your salary.

Hey, it's a job. Decent pay for right out of school. There is no need to be ashamed of your job, you bring in a check and don't rely on anyone else for a free ride. That in itself should make you proud of where you work. Everyone has to go through their "probrationary" period, once it up you will move up and sounds like probably pretty quickly. Keep your head, keep up the good work, and if someone gives you a bunch of crap for it, you just mention to them that you can pay your bills.....................

That's nothing to be embarrased about. If you were a prostitute or a stripper and you HAD to do it for a living, that would suck. Maybe also a janitor who has to clean toilets and that dirty work would suck, but this isn't anything to be embarrased about. We all have to start somewhere, and it's always at the bottom.
