I am currently a 911 dispatcher but have a strong interest in criminal minds and how they work. I have an inquizative mind and love to solve problems. I am currently working on a 4 year Criminal Justice Admin degree from the University of Phoenix, but I am thinking about changing it to a Biology degree. Is there another type of degree that I am overlooking? Does anyone offer a 4 year crime scene analysis degree? Does it even exist? Thanks for the help.

best thing to do is to talk to one of your professors about it......they should be able to give you info (or tell you where to look) to find out what jobs are available, what the actual work is like, how much they pay, what kind of degree/certification is required.

you are also overlooking Forensic Psychology. the #1 program is in NYC and is very reasonably priced. the #2 program is in texas @ Sam Houston State University (and they have a prison on campus for grad students to work at). however, there is very little crime scene analysis involved and it is more dealing with courts, police, inmates, etc. (not profiling, that is a stereo-type)

stick with the CJ degree but you will most likely want a minor in chemestry, biology, math, etc.

contact the detectives in your PD and ask them. or the HR dept of the police dept and ask what the job requirements are and what the job details are. do you have to be a licensed peace officer? do you have to be a cop in addition to the college education?

Forensic Science is becoming really popular when it comes to crime sceneinvestagations. Some community colleges are offering this in a 2 year degree. Do a bit of research in this, and do make sure that the school you're attending is properly accredited.

Bachelor of Science in Criminology is the best degree for you to be a Crime Scene Investigator. Study also forensics, chemistry and medical technology.

I would say phsycoligal forensics would be the best. You can do forensics at the crime scene and will have psychology to help you build profiles for perps.
