My diet consists of a LOT of fruits and vegetables and whole grains. I really don't let myself eat meat or oil or butter or anything. It's like I brainwash myself that those are fattening and bad. I know there are "good" fats and stuff, but do I really need them? My period has stopped coming for 5 months now, ever since I dropped around 10 pounds in two months. I'm 14, and sometimes I go through periods of huge binges and gain some weight, which I lose through restrictve eating. My eyes are always really dry, which interfere with my sleeping, I'm lightheaded, get dizzy, feel nauseous, and am always very sleepy. Can someone please tell me what nutrients I need to eat? Do I need to eat some good fats? Do I have an iron deficiency?

Yes, you do need some fats in your diet. And binging is not healthy.

You have the right idea, but a little too extreme.

Avocados, peanuts and pistachios have low bad fats and good blends of healthy oils for you. Start there. Keep reading and becoming more knowledgeable, not just brainwashed.

The only people not eating enough saturated fats will be starving, so it is difficult to know which of their conditions is caused by lack of carbs, lack of protein, lack of vitamins or lack of various fats. I just had a quick look on google scholar but couldn't see any experiments using non-human animals to investigate the effects of a diet with adequate nutrient and energy intake but insufficient fat intake. Maybe nobody has thought of it before. If it does have an effect it will probably be to do with cellular function as fats are used in the cellular membranes and the structure of the fatty acids making up the molecules are important in the way they allow other molecules to pass in and out of the cell.

Stop doing what you're doing. Eat a normal health diet that includes carbohydrates, protein and fat. Drink 6-8 glasses of fluids (not just water!) every day. Exercise regularly. Keep active. Get adequate sleep and rest.

Fats are essential to the proper working of your nervous system. Be sensible in your eating habits. Do not binge!!! It's very unhealthy. You've already caused some of the problems you describe; but you can correct them by changing what you've been doing to something that makes far more sense and that's healthy.

You absolutely need fats in your diet. The best ones by far are right up your ally- Plant fats baby! Thats where its at!

Coconut- yummy, yummy- first drink the water and then the awesome meat! Get some cocunut oil/ butter and use like butter as well.
Avocado- one of the "superfoods" get em in everyday!
Seeds and nuts- raw (not roasted) soak or sprout if poss. and even better to eat them with some greens as nuts can be acid forming.
Since you're obviously dedicated to supreme health wouldn't it make sense to go a few extra steps and consult a profesional nutritionist about a diet program? Make sure she/he is into raw living food!
There are also some great books out there- I highly reccomed "Raw Perfection" by Mike Nash- Great info there on why you need fat and why its so beneficial.
Good luck! Grreat your starting so young!

You need 30g a fat a day for good health. Minimum. All fats are good except trans-fat. And get some Omega 3 flish oil pills. It will help. You are not getting enough protein either. Protein and fat are NECESSARY for good health. Carbs are not and you are eating mostly carbs.
