If you are signing the thank you from both of you, keep it like this
"We would like to thank you for your generous monetary gift. It will help us greatly as we begin our marriage together, and is much appreciated!
Sincerely, Fred and Nancy"
(don't use the part you wrote about it helping make your wedding a success - it makes no sense)

I wouldn't write "It helped in making our wedding a success." This can be taken the wrong way since it implies that you judge a wedding's success by the gifts received.
Thank the guest for attending your wedding and for their gift. I would not mention the dollar amount of the cash or gift card. Instead, you may want to mention what the money will be used for (something related to your life together as a couple)--saving for a home, buying new furniture, moving, etc.
I would also use your wife's name instead of "my wife" because it sounds much more personal.
Congratulations on your wedding and best wishes for a happy life together.

instead of "it helped in making our wedding a success", I think you would be better off saying "it will be put to good use", because the wedding gift didn't actually HELP in the organizing of the wedding, or how well the caterers did. You know what I mean? Like the actual gift didn't help the day, it will help in the rest of your days hence forth. It doesn't matter what the gift is either, money, toaster, paintings, dishes, etc.etc. it will be put to good use.....

I don't think it's right since even if there are no gifts from guests, the wedding will still be a success. Try thanking them for their gifts since their gifts will help in building a new nest.

Since you got the gift after the wedding (opened it after you got home) I would not use the line of making your wedding a success. I would say something like this
My wife and I would like to thank you for _____. It will help in making our new house (or apartment) a home. We enjoyed seeing you at the wedding and hope to see you again soon.

yes, the grammar is fine. Personally I think it sounds a bit over the top saying a gift helped make your wedding a success. I'd rather say something about being grateful for their attendance and that they helped you celebrate your wonderful day.

It depends on who you are writing this to. But I would probably say "We thank you for your generous gift. It helped to make our wedding a success." By saying "we would like to thank you" sounds like you are going to give them something.

It would be more appropriate to say "Thank you so much for the gift and thank you for sharing our special day with us" If it was something specific like a blender, say something like "Thank you so much for the blender! We can't wait to use it! And thank you for sharing our special day with us. Having you there meant a lot to us"

It sounds good to me. And definitely don't listen to the first poster. Her grammatical skills do not allow her to critique your phrase, or any of ours. Or ares, if you listen to her.
