sounds like either a migraine or a cluster headache, both of those cause one sided headaches. I normally get it on the right side.

I just brought my wife home today from the hospital. She had surgery last thursday to correct a condition known as a Chiari Malformation. It basically is caused by part of the cerebral tonsils of your brain putting pressure on your spinal cord / brain stem. Google the thing and you'll find much more information than I can post here. Her symptoms were localized headaches, occasional dizziness and occasional pain radiating down her arm.
Since it originates where it does, symptoms can be almost anything but headaches are very often the most common one displayed and they can be as you say, only on one side. You would need to see a neurologist or a neurosurgeon to have this accurately diagnosed or ruled out after having an MRI.
The Dr. that did her surgery has done over 400 of these "decompression" procedures, we had never heard of it up until a couple of months ago. Lots regular doctors don't think of things like this or are not as familiar as a neuro. would be.
Don' t have any idea if that could be what you have but it may be something you want to check into. Best of luck in finding a fix for whatever it is.

I get some crazy headaches every other year that come and go for months at a time. Make sure you take something for them because medicine does help. Excedrine is what a nuerologist recommended for me to take and I have also found that 2 or 3 Ibuprofins really seem to help. You might want to go see a Dr. and he will prescribe something more specific for your type of headache. Also I had accupuncture which didnt seem to do much, but it came with a massage and she really concentrated on the part of my face and the nerves leading to the pain. That really helped more then anything and the headaches went away for a very long time. First step is to take some headache medicine and then go from there.

Often people with migraine headaches will always have the headache in the same spot. When you have the headache do you have sensitivity to light, sound or smell? Do you ever get nauseated with a headache? If so you might be having migraines- if over the counter medications work that is all you need but if the headaches are bothersome I would see someone as there are great medications for this kind of pain.

I have migraines. they are only ever on the left side of my forehead. Maybe you should see a neurologist about your headaches if they are very often and he/she can give you medicine to prevent them and help them when they come.

Wow. I highly recommend visiting a doctor. Headaches are often indicators of problems with blood pressure. That's how my sister found out she had kidney failure.

Call a doctor. It could be anything, ranging from serious to just minor. But it's better safe then sorry. The advice offered here are just going to be guesses, and it's best that you get it checked out by a professional.
Hope I helped!
