I'm not sure if I'm allowed to take my pets to the vet clinic.

I'm NOT asking if it's FREE and yes, AF bases do have vet clinics. As a reservist I do have an ID,otherwise I wouldn't be able to get on base. I'm just asking if I'm allowed to take my dogs there to get their shots. In case of an emergency, I take'em to the Puppy ER.

Yes, you are allowed access to the vet clinic. And definitely go for shots! So much cheaper!! Most clinics now have a "shot day" once a quarter. That's all they do that day.... no exams, no lookovers, just shots.
Call your local base vet and see what they have to offer.

Call your local clinic and ask. Most don't have the ability - those who have an AD id often have a hard time getting their animals seen. Our clinic here only has a vet two days a week.

Vet's main job in the military is food inspection, health inspections and military working animals THEN pets. So while yes they are often cheaper it's usually best to have a clinic off post when it's available.

Depends on the base -- here on Camp Lejeune, the Vet Clinic is run by the base, so any DOD or civilian ID card carrier is allowed to use the services.

The vet clinic is not free. It's always been cheaper for us to find a clinic off base.

Not all base vets do all things off base vets do (like spay and nutter.) You can check with you local military vet to find out though.

got to agree with above statement the base vet is usually [a] dearer than most places out in town [b] have a HUGE waiting period so NO use if dog / pet really sick [c] have limited things they can do.

If cost is an issue then I suggest calling the local humane society as they often have a list of cheaper vets that you can give a try...........

Regards

They do have access- but they would have to pay- sort of like using health care on base. military reservists have to pay for that as well.

I suggest using a vet off-base.

might depend on the clinic itself. The one here at Ft Meade is easy to get into, but the one at DLI.. only military working animals were seen.

reservists have few benefits that equal their active duty counter parts. About the only benefit they have that is equal to active duty is going to Iraq on a regular basis.
