I disagree with it.
A gay man was kicked out of the military because they found out he was gay. Even though he trained for it and was useful because he could translate Arabic.
He said something like: "A person (in the military) should be determined on their merits not who they are."
And I agree completely.
But I dont see the problem with having gays or lesbians in the military..

I know what the Dont ask Dont tell policy is. And that doesnt make anything better. The Dont ask Dont tell policy just makes homosexuality seem wrong because the gays and lesbians cant say anythign about it.

My take is this, it is a don't ask, don't tell policy. If someone is gay or lesbian and they say they are, then they broke policy and are too dumb to serve in the military.

i will handle some factors from a woman military attitude. We had problem-loose showers, no longer the advantageous house barracks that squaddies get excitement from at present. We had a number of gay or bi women folk in our barracks construction. They have been respectful people as we communicate women folk and could wait till the bathe grew to become into empty or bathe at hours while others could be out and approximately. an incredible sort of it quite is admire. have faith it or no longer, no longer all gay or lesbians desire to throw down with purely each physique which will decide for it. Being different than heterosexual does no longer directly make you a skank or slut. I even have served with butch lesbians and girls folk you does no longer even think of have been lesbians. Their sexual determination shouldn't intrude with their duty to united states of america. no better than a heteros intercourse existence would desire to intrude with their line of duty. Sexual promiscuity is rampant interior the protection rigidity and is the down fall of many familes and does have an impression of unit cohesion. There seems to be a freedom this is taken to the extreme. oftentimes, from what I observed the habit of non-hetero workers grew to become into greater expert than maximum who have been so busy mattress hopping they could no longer save music of their enthusiasts. it quite is worse over seas and that i could assume the comparable mindset for those on deliver. it quite is style of like an all bets are off mentality.

If your a straight man or woman in the military and comfortable with your sexuality,, then it shouldn't matter...The don't ask don't tell policy is a way for gays to be in the military and not get harassed by those who are not comfortable with their sexuality!

I think it's because the higher ups are "up there in age" and were brought up with intolerance. the 5 star generals (or whoever is in charge of our military (have uneducated -intolerant type values) they believe (like alot of individuals) that the existence of an alternative life style is a choice, not genetic. they are afraid that any "gays" in the military (of mostly) men will weaken our forces, recruit our soldiers (to become gay) and cause a weakening in the system. In addition to that, there are many (for lack of a better term) "redneck" type enlistees, who feel the same way. (i know it was a derogatory statement, but I'm trying to make a point.) So, it is not really a tolerable, safe environment for the alternative lifestyle. Let's say, just for another view that... If, I happen to be an atheist, and want to join the local catholic church in the fundraiser for ...say a missing child...am I going to have a huge confrontation with them when they decide to pray to God for help? No, I'm not...I want to help with the common goal. I think that could be how most gay's in the military feel. just my opinion. good question. hope it makes people really think. (by the way, I know several gays and some of them could kick your ***)

It's a matter of logistics. Why don't men and women share locker rooms, bathrooms, and fight/sleep beside eachother in fox holes? If a man a woman cannot be together in such ways for essentially sexual reasons, then why would you allow two homosexuals? Basically, the reasoning for it is the SAME as the reasoning for certain things not being co-ed in the military. It's easy to look at someone and decide gender, and thus easy to segregate to prevent sexual misconduct problems. It's not so easy with homosexuality, so the military discourages homosexuals from joining. It's not because they're bigots. Essentially, it all comes down to logistics.

The military has a don't ask don't tell policy. The reason for this policy is some gays, not all, will make advances on their fellow soldiers, and this creates tension among the troops. This is not a good situation. I have been around gays, although I am not. I have only had one that made me feel uncomfortable to the point I did not want to be around him, or trust him because of forceful advances he tried to make on me, and other people. This is the situations the military wants to avoid. otherwise they could care less what your sexual orientation is.

They can and are in the military. Straight people have to hide there sexuality as well. Yes they can be married, but there is a big no PDA (public display of affection) rule. Especially in uniform.

It's also illegal for straights to have sex in the same positions it's illegal for gays and lesbians to have sex.

So the rules do not exclude or single out gays and lesbians, they're equal for all.

What military you talking about, there are gays and lesbians in US military. I doubt that the gay person was kicked out of the military, for being gay. There had to be more to it than that. The old because I was gay thing is as bad as the racist card, when caught yell, it is because I am gay, or whatever race they are. Totally wrong.

The official DoD reasoning per DOD 1332.14
"Homosexuality is incompatible with military service. The presence in the military environment of persons who engage in homosexual conduct or who, by their statements, demonstrate a propensity to engage in homosexual conduct, seriously impairs the accomplishment of the military mission. The presence of such members adversely affects the ability of the armed forces to maintain discipline, good order, and morale; to foster mutual trust and confidence among service members; to insure the integrity of the system of rank and command; to facilitate assignment and worldwide deployment of service members who frequently must live and work in close conditions affording minimal privacy; to recruit and retain members of the armed forces; to maintain the public acceptability of military service; and to prevent breaches of security."

Other reasons other people simply refuse to admit include hate crimes, such as the case of Allen R. Schindler, Jr. who was brutally murdered when he revealed to his fellow sailors he was a homosexual.

Not to mention the billions of dollars that would be lost in frivolous sexual harassment suits that would be inevitably filed.

Do you personally think it would be acceptable for someone who might get sexually excited to share the same community shower as you? One of the reasons homosexuals are prevented from coming out of the closet in the military for the same reasons men and women in the military don't take showers together. The defense has been made that homosexuals are not sex-crazed, but the major point is the opportunity exists and the military tries it's damndest to prevent opportunities of ALL sexual predators.
But I'm sure many people don't want to hear that, they see the military as gay-bashing homophobes, when in reality they're just protecting ALL parties including the individual, the taxpayer, and the potential victim.

Don't ask Don't tell is a compromise; "Be gay but for your safety, others comfort and to cover our legal butts, don't tell anyone."

Hoped that help to clear up any questions you may have had

It's a distraction. No one wants to take a shower with a gay man. There are times when you're training and it's extremely cold. People get really close, and it's uncomfortable if it's with a gay man. Also, since there is a lot of hazing, it's in the homosexual's best interest not to be in the military. Trust me. All of you who say it's stupid, would you feel comfortable with a gay man checking you out in the shower? Or would you not care?
