the salvage title is what they give you when your car has been deemed a total loss. You need a title to prove ownership of the car, but after you've been in an accident, if the damage to your car was too much, they consider it totaled and give you a salvage title. That way you can still sell the car to someone who might want a project car, or parts, etc. So it's basically just the title to a car that's been totalled. Hope this was helpful!

Usually. It's when the insurance company "totals" your car and sells it for salvage. The car can be repaired and put back on the road, and it then has a "reconstructed" title. I've driven one with a reconstructed title for the last five or six years. Works fine. But you might want to have a mechanic check it out before buying. An accident doesn't lead to a salvage title unless the car is declared a total loss by the insurance company.

Not just an accident - totalled by the insurance company and sold at auction. People buy these damaged cars and rebuild them for profit. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's dangerous because they don't fix them completely.

Just so that any buyer of that car in the future knows that at one point in it's life the car was totalled, the state makes it a 'salvage title' and that stays with the car forever. Sort of a way to protect the public from people who would try and sell these cars as 'undamaged' - people who buy a car with a salvage title should get it completely checked out by a reputable mechanic to make sure it was repaired properly when it was fixed.

A salvage brand on a title means the car was in an accident that resulted in the car having damage in excess of 60% or more of it's value. It will be printed on the title, some states it's lettering is so large, one would need to be blind not to see it, others it written real small.

Salvage Title — A Salvage Title is issued on a vehicle damaged to the extent that the cost of repairing the vehicle exceeds ~ 75% of its pre-damage value. This damage threshold may vary by state. Some states treat Junk titles the same as Salvage but the majority use this title to indicate that a vehicle is not road worthy and cannot be titled again in that state. The following eleven states also use Salvage titles to identify stolen vehicles - AZ, FL, GA, IL, MD, MN, NJ, NM, NY, OK and OR.

Salvage title es when the car has been in an accident, the insurance has paid it because of lost or stolen or some less usual things. When the Title is Salvage it said somewhere "SALVAGE" or the MVD (DMV whatever) change the color of the tittle. Usually a salvage car is valued in less than a half the value of a Clean one.

A salvage title is attached to a vehicle that has been "totaled" and the insurance company has deemed it more expensive to fix than to replace. The vehicle is not necessarily out of commission however and may still be recovered if you are willing to pay the price to fix it yourself. You may also continue to drive such a vehicle if it meets safety standards. Many cars with salvage titles are still in use.

Not necessarily, If a insurance company writes off the car as a total loss, then it could have a salvage title. it could have flood damaged or had enough cosmetic or mechanical damage that it cost more to fix than it was worth.

Let me explain what Salvage is this way for you to get a real understanding.

If you went to buy a chair and the sticker said $100. and right next to it the identical chair with a sticker price $40. marked legs were broken but not glued together and declared safe, thats SALVAGE,,,

how safe would you really feel sitting on it ? never mind going down the Hwy at 70 miles an hour.
