When the car is idleing and the MAF Sensor is unplugged, what SHOULD happen? My hubby did this cause my car is sick. When he unplugged it, it did not kill the engine but it did when he plugged it back in! What does this mean? Bad sensor? What IS the best way to test the sensor? THANKS for any and all help!!!

1997 Maxima GLE(V-6) VQ30DE- the car will barely go, (very poor acceleration)and uses an excessive amount of fuel. (Have changed fuel filter& fuel strainer&air filter)Had similar prob before, but not this bad ! cleaned the maf sensor and it improved enough that prob wasnt urgent. I cannot go back to the dealer now! my mech experience is with american made veh. if it makes a diffrence, & on a chevy if u unplug a GOOD MAF it'll kill the engine, not when u plug it back in! If anyone has any HELPFUL sugg. THEY would be greatly appreciated

The MAF sensor should make over 4 volts at wide open throttle you look at this in live data. We replace maf sensors all the time some MAF cars need a new computer reflash too. At the dealer level we even warranty the repair for a year. Always replace the air filter with a good nissan filter. Some weak fiters will cause MAF failure.

Why don't you tell us what the problem is so we can help, not really interested in what your hubby did,by the way thats normal, nothing to do with the existing problem, just give us the facts.
Make/model/size of engine/standard or automatic
