the basic tenents of the faith are found in the books Doctrine and Covenants and the Pearl of Great Price.
The book of Mormon is only suppose to "prove" smith was a prophet and received revelations on the Church from God therefore his teachings are valid, and that God removed the Church from the earth for smith to restore it. It is not relevant to the actual understanding of the religion. It is a vague argument that if you believe the Book of Mormon is true, you must believe smith was a prophet of God and therefore must be followed.

It is important to know that the basic structure of the church is based on modern-day revelation, which is mostly found in another book of scripture, the Doctrine and Covenants. The Doctrine and Covenants is not sorted by topic, though, so it takes a while to find specific principles if you read it for the first time.
There are many religious teachings in the BOM.
2 Nephi 31:16-21 teaches about obtaining salvation
2 Nephi 2 is about agency
Jacob 2:17-19 teaches about seeking earthly riches.
Mosiah 2:17-19 teaches about service to others.
Alma 32:21-36 teaches about faith.
3 Nephi 11-30 comprises an account of the resurrected Jesus's visit to the Americas and his teachings there
Moroni 3 is about the laying on of hands for priesthood.
Moroni 4-5 is about the sacramnet
Moroni 7:16-17 is about discerning evil and good
Moroni 10:4-5 is about praying for a testimony
Many parts of the Book of Mormon are historical accounts meant for background information or real-life examples.
If the Book of Mormon is true, it means that Joseph Smith was an inspired individual. If Joseph Smith was an inspired individual, his claims to being a prophet would be inspired as well. If he was a prophet, then the church he established is true. The Book of Mormon supports all the doctrines of our church, and through reading it, can bring men close to God.

I think you mean that you fail to see in the Book of Mormon those doctrines which are unique to the Mormon Church. In some ways that is true. There is much more support for polygamy in the Bible then there is in the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon doesn't tell you much about ordinances for the dead.
The Book of Mormon is like the Bible and is in harmony with it. So don't expect a lot of contradictions which might make it "relevant" to the Mormon religion. But in fact the Book of Mormon does shed a new light on the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ, so what has traditionally been understood in a certain way is now seen differently.
The question that the Book of Mormon raises is "Is this book inspired in the same way the Bible is inspired?" If the Bible is the word of God, and the Book of Mormon is also the word of God, how did it come about that Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon and brought it to light? If Joseph Smith were a phony then the Book of Mormon would be the work of a liar, cheat, deceiver, and wicked man. Conversely, if the Book of Mormon is an inspired work written by prophets, then Joseph Smith's claims of being a prophet and having a mission to restore the true church of Jesus Christ must be true. That is the relevance.

All over! It's just like finding the principles of other Christian faiths in the Bible. The center of the Mormon faith is Christ, and the Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Christ, meaning you can deepen your understanding of Christ and His teachings through the reading of the Book of Mormon. Again, if you focus on Christ and live your life according to His teachings you will be pretty well off. The Mormon faith does have other teachings not found in the Book of Mormon, which have been revealed to modern day prophets as was done in the Bible and the Book of Mormon. These teachings are found in the Doctrine and Covenants and other records of the words of the prophets (although they are free to just give opinion, which is not the word of God).
If you pray and find it's true, then you would necessarily believe Joseph Smith was a true prophet and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was also true. That is the relevance. But even more relevant is the increased understanding of Christ, our Savior and Hope.

It is ANOTHER testament of Jesus Christ. It only completes and corrects the teachings that we already have from the Bible. We can learn more about our Savior and His people on a different continent during the same time as in the Bible. One thing that is important to know is that we do not rely only on The Book of Mormon, the church would not be complete without the other books that we believe to be doctrine.

Not every verse in the Bible teaches Christian principles.
The Book of Mormon is the spiritual history of several groups of people. We believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God just as the Bible is. We also consider the words of the modern prophets to be divine as well.
Besides clarifying ambiguous doctrines, the book teaches about faith, about the consequences for both righteousness and for sin. We can read the words that Jesus Christ spoke to the people of the Americas. We can learn from the example of righteous heroes.
Not every verse is, however the Book is filled with principles that will make you a better individual.

First off, reading the Thirteen Articles of Faith is a good start off point. It goes over the broad spectrum of what we believe, but you can use the index for the details.
Places you can go:
1) Mormon.org (This is the site for people with questions. You can even chat with the missionaries without having them come to your door).
2) jefflindsay.com (This site explains Mormon doctrine that is generally misunderstood by people who are not members). It includes evidence of the Book of Mormon's truthfulness and many other good facts.
In Moroni chapter 10 it says that if you pray with a sincere desire, the Holy Ghost will confirm in your mind and heart that it is true. I encourage you to try that and see what happens. But mind you, you have to really want to know. It can't be a wishy-washy desire. The Lord answers those who seek him with earnestness and a sincere desire. You have to want Him to tell you the truth, he's not just going to shout it to you either. You have to listen. One thing that a lot of people don't get is that most people don't get the major sign from heaven that something is true. Then they give up thinking that if it were true they would get a major revelation or something. Most converts to the church that I know didn't have any sacred experiences like a light from heaven or a life changing experience. They just felt the Holy Ghost telling them that it was true. I promise that if you read the book and have a sincere desire to know, God will let you know if it is true or not.
Good luck with your endeavors!

sturdy question. All participants of the church ought to examine the mag of discourses to learn what the taught in the early days of the church . that's certainly diverse from what coach immediately. Its like the church differences on on a daily basis time-physique. Which god on no account differences. He an identical immediately, the following day and perpetually. If I had the time whilst i grew to become into member of the church to verify the early doctrine of the church i might have left long term in the past.

no where.
The book of mormon is supposed to be another 'testament' of Jesus... the religion is based loosely on christianity with the Book of Mormon as like, another gosepl.
(Like that of the 4gospels, Matt, Mark, Luke, John). But, It is essentially, another Bible.
There's The book of Mormon, Peral of Great Price etc, but mormons still use the real bible (KJV version).
I have a copy of the Book of Mormon. it's ...... interesting.
As far as the basis of the religion goes, it's pretty much very family oriented, God-fearing, God-loving and for the most part Chrsitian. The only problem is that the Book of Mormon, (the 'other gospel') is in complete contradiction to the Word (the Bible). ... as well, as the foundation of the religion itself.
This is to no fault of those that follow or belong to the Mormon Church, but the fault instead lies with the doctrine itself.
If you are reading it, and trying to find answers that you are not finding, perhpas this is the time to re-evaluate your thinking on your belief system.
I'm a firm believer that prayer ALWAYS works, especially when you are posing questions to God, about your beliefs,
sort of like that youve posted here. If you are looking for truth, you'll eventually find it.
We all go thru seasons where are belief system is shaken up and we need to evaluate our thinking to get it in line with the Word of God.
I'd suggest, more time reading the Word, (the bible) (whether it's KJV,or NIV or whatever) and less time reading the book of Mormon. I think things will fall into proper perspective.

As i said earlier, the book of mormon was written in the 19th century by a fraudster who wrote it in the language of the17th century.
You don't find mormons over here in the UK (thankfully) but you can sure bet that the gullible Americans will fall for this sort of stuff every time.
