This mother is NOT a little child. She is addicted to the cigarettes. The addiction is much worse than heroin. All of the above ideas are just plain dumb You sound like your talking to a little child and treating her like one.

. First of all, your mother must WANT TO QUIT SMOKING. I was a 3 pack a day smoker and decided that I wanted to quit.
Ask your mother to make a deal. Ask her if she will agree to smoke out side the house. Tell her how much the smoking bothers you and your asthma
Talk to her doctor about the effect of smoking not only with her but what it the second hand smoke is doing to you. Throw in the asthma to boot and let the doctor explain the risks and the benefits of her stopping smoking.
Hopefully, with this information she will want to quit.
What ever you do, please be patient and try to encourage her if she even slows down and starts smoking less.
Good luck with your mom.

For your Mom to quit smoking you need to make her want to quit first. Let her know that you love her and many others care about her too. Ask mom see if she love you and wants to hang around to see your wedding or her grandchildren graduate form high school? Tell her that there are many fun things in life other than smoking. There are many people to love and be loved. If that is not enough then take Mom to visit a lung cancer hospital and watch lung cancer patients, see how they live and how they die. If she does not want to quit there is nothing you can do for her.

Now, this is the most important part of stop smoking: If she decided to stop smoking, do not say she want to “QUIT”. Do not see cigarette as enemies; just say cigarette was my best friend but I do not want to see my best friend anymore. So may be three weeks later something upset her and she pick up a cigarette and smoke, she would not say “OH! I loosed”. She will be able to say that “OH! I saw my friend again, but I still do not want to see my friend no longer”.

As far as the felling of no energy, something missing between fingers and desire to light up and smoke a cigarette is only from lock of oxygen. Her body forgot how to breathe due to using mouth to smoke. She need to relearn how to inhaling and exhaling air from nose. She needs to close mouth and take deep breath slowly and completely from nose then exhaling slowly and completely. She can do it. Oh! By the way, massage is a great help for stop smoking. Let me know how she doing. Please do not hold my English. andyhooang@yahoo.com
