What an awesome pet to choose, and what an awesome responsibility. My oldest daughter rescued a great dane and finally had to put him down last fall. We were all very sad. They do not live as long as smaller dogs, and when I watched him suffer with arthritis, and fall down, it was heartbreaking.

Research all you can about diet and extra nutrition for your precious baby. Keep in mind how big she will get and start getting your home ready for her adult size. Choose a name that means something special to you, and that is easy for her to recognize and respond to. Then never use it in anger, or when she has misbehaved. Most libraries have great books on dog training, and videos to watch. One big thing I got from them was to practise using the name only with good, and just have "bad dog" or "no bark" or whatever ready for the misbehavior, so that they will ALWAYS want to come to you when you yell out their name. That is the hardest one of all the rules, and I think the most valuable for me.

Here's what I got from Google:

I so very much wish you and your pup find happiness and have a great life together.

I say name her Sasha or Lila or Kiki Or coco. just give it time. eventually you'll get a name based on her personality. I had a dog that i could never get a name for. people started calling her princess and i got mad, i didn't like the name. Later on I thought her name would always be a mystery, so i named her mystery but always called her Mysty.

My son and I came up with "Jane" the Great Dane. Dogs answer best to one syllable names and it rhymes!

hmmm..
Athena? As far as looks, that might work, but you may want to base it more on personality, give it time something will come to you, I have a horse that I could not think of a name for, and I just for some reason started calling him Romeo.

my great dane is named Isabel. It's very fitting; she likes to sit with her nose up in the air like she's a queen =).
