It will only take 1/2 a second! Esp. if it's a unisex one or one in a house. It's ridiculous how you type long answers to why you shouldn't have to take it down.

It was down first, then you put it up. After you use it, you're supposed to put it back down. Out of respect.

I'd hate to marry one of you men that are lazy because you'd be complaining about who takes the trash out and simple tasks like that.

I'm a plumber, so let me give you some insight. In the home, the seat and lid should be closed (down) when not in use. This can help prevent 1500 engagement rings from falling into them during the flush. (True story.)

As for unisex public restrooms, if there is no lid, it does not matter. If everyone puts the seat down, then you will have inconsiderate males urinating all over the seat. This is a no win situation.

It's just like people who do not wash their hands after using the toilet. Some people just don't care.

This is all a myth women created to have yet another reason to bit*h at men. How many women really pee in the dark? and WHY? Are you whiney women really saying you are stupid enough to actually fall into the toilet? You have to be mentally retarded to do such a thing. Are you too dumb to operate a complicated machine like a toilet seat?! Another thing -- how many men have ever pee'd on a closed toilet seat?? I have been so drunk that I couldn't even walk but I have never pee'd on a toilet seat. The FLOOR maybe, but never a toilet seat.
Dang, why don't you Oprah loving, men hating hags give this one a rest??

No it's not hard to put the toilet seat down. It is incredibly difficult , however, to put up with the woman who yells and screams and generally acts like a 2-year old when we forget to put the seat down once out of 20 times.

I shouldn't have to do anything. If that's the way I use the toilet, that's the way I'm gonna leave it. You have eyes; so if you see the seat up why can't you just put it down? I have to put it up when i go. Unless I wanna be a jerk and pee on the seat. You don't hear men crying about having to put the seat up. Or men crying about why women can't leave the seat up. You know, women want all this independence and sh*t, but you b*tch about the most inane simple pointless things like the toilet seat. It's ridiculous. If it's not in the position it needs to be in when you use it, move it and shut up!

Seriously, let it go. It's too much to worry about.

I never sit on the toilet without looking at the seat first. It's a hygiene issue. I even do it in women's restrooms. So, at home, if it's up, I put it down. If it's down, he puts it up. Not a big deal.

EDIT: Chivalry?! In the bathroom? You've got to be joking. Yes, it does still exist. My boyfriend still opens the car door for me. I just don't nag at him to put the toilet seat down.

I try to do it IF I found it down, sometimes I forget. I'm not perfect. But, if it only takes 1/2 a second, how many seats could you have put down in the time it took you to post this question? Not trying to be a hater, just being realistic.

I don't see what the deal with toilet seats is... it is indeed very little trouble to put one down -so why would I care if it's up? I know how to put it down too... not worth getting upset about or even giving it a second thought.

As a lady, I ask, is it that hard for you to put the toilet seat down? Like you said, it only takes 1/2 a second. Quit expecting him to put it down, and walk in knowing you will have to put it down before you use the toilet. Your life will be less stressful, I know mine is.

I do it ever since my wife heard that comedienne make the joke years ago. Since that joke, many women have made that a running gag at home and it is no longer a joke, but a gender bashing line. I am not offended, since I agree to cooperate...but give it up, already! Enough! You aren't really that mad about it!!!!

It isn't a joke, it isn't rude and it isn't too much trouble. If a man says NO, don't go whining about it. Just do it yourself.

When we ask for something and you say no, we don't whine. we just into the bathroom and do it ourself....ahem.
