Because the Bible says homosexuality is a sin.

Homosexuality is a very grave sin that the bible clearly shows it to be. If you have a bible I would like you to look up the bible account of the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. These cities were destroyed because they practiced many perversions which include homosexuality. And one more favor, if you have a bible look up 1 Corinthians 6:9-11. It shows you straight from the bible that homosexuality is wrong. If you have any question please feel free to ask me. By the way, it is not only Catholics that view homosexuality as being wrong most other religious have that same view.

Not just Roman Catholics, but Protestants too. I am Bisexual, and I know it's a sin. Why deny it? I am a sinner and when I converted to Christianity, I admitted it to God! So why suddenly be in denial about that?

Sinners are saved because Jesus was the perfect one. There hasn't been a perfect saint before, or after that, it's not what God expects out of us anyway. What God wants us to do is trust Him.

So Catholics are right to think that homosexuality is a sin. Because the Bible states that so clearly. ( As I'm sure that you'll get the many quotes from the Book of Leviticus) .

It's what they do with that information that makes them get it wrong in many cases. Though I have to say, as many reasons I have to disagree with Roman Catholics, they seem to be pretty good on the forgiving things. That's been my experience anyway.

I'm a Catholic. We do not believe that homosexual urges are sins, nor do we believe that homosexuals should be discriminated against. Also, we are NOT the only people to believe this. As another answerer noted, society does not condone homosexuality; they only tolerate this unnatural practice.

But we do believe that men having sex with men and women having sex with women is a sin. (We aren't being discrimatory, do stop throwing that accusation at us already.) It's a sin because if GOD (if you don't believe in God this whole thing I'm writing is pointless) meant people to do it with people of their own gender he wouldn't have created two genders. If He had meant homosexuality to be alright, why can't two men reproduce? Why can't two women reproduce? The whole point of sex is not pleasure, as modern society makes it to be, but reproduction. The goal of sex is to keep up the human race, and same-sex intercourse is unable to accomplish this.

Catholics don't believe that being homosexual is a sin, they believe carrying out the actions of a same-sex relationship is a sin. Men sleeping with men, and women sleeping with women is considered a sin, not men liking men, and women liking women. Besides a writing in the Bible, it also has to do with how they believe sex is intended for procreation, or the creation of a child. And basically, why they see homosexuality as a sin is because they also see sex for pleasure as a sin. Hope that helps.

Created in the image of the one God and equally endowed with rational souls, all men have the same nature and the same origin. Redeemed by the sacrifice of Christ, all are called to participate in the same divine beatitude: all therefore enjoy an equal dignity.

The Catholic Church believes there is nothing sinful about being homosexual. But homosexuals like all unmarried people are called to celibacy.

The Church specifically says that homosexuals "must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided."

Here is the text of the document, On the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons (1986): http://www.newadvent.org/library/docs_df86ho.htm

With love in Christ.

Catholics take the bible extremely literal. The bible says homosexuality is a sin..... God put men and women here to procreate. Two people of the same sex cannot do that. I don't even know any religion that completely accepts homosexuals at all. Catholics are definately the most strict about this topic though.

In Leviticus 18:22 and 24 homosexuality is described as an "abomination" and "defiling." It is reprehensible and unclean.

In Leviticus 20:13 it is again described as an "abomination" but here as one worthy of the death penalty!

Deuteronomy 23:17 forbade the presence of a "sodomite" in the land of Israel.

An incident similar to that of Sodom and Gomorrah is seen again in Judges 19. Again the sin of homosexuality is described as "wickedness."

In 1 Kings 14, 15, and 22 the removal of male prostitutes from the land of Israel is viewed as a sign of much-needed spiritual reformation.

The prohibition in Deuteronomy 22:5 of women wearing men's clothing appears to be a specific condemnation of transvestism.

In Romans 1:18-32 the apostle Paul condemns the practice in the severest terms. Homosexuality is "unclean," "impure," "dishonoring to the body," "vile," "degrading / disgraceful," "contrary to nature," "unseemly/ obscene," "improper activity of a depraved mind," "unrighteous," "wicked," etc. Of particular importance to the apostle in this passage is the fact that homosexuality is "unnatural"--contrary to nature. In other words, nature itself teaches that the practice is wrong; we all know it intuitively. Homosexuality is, then, a particularly rebellious sin.

In 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 the apostle Paul speaks of homosexuals as "effeminate" and "abusers of themselves with mankind" who "shall not inherit the kingdom of God." The terms he uses here seem to be specific references to both active and the passive participants in a homosexual relationship. Such people are "unrighteous," he says, and if they remain in that practice they will be condemned.

The Bible says it's a sin. God created man and woman and asked them to spread like sand on the sea shore.. this clearly states God's wish. Anything against this is against God's wish so its a sin.In the Old Testament it's also said that God destroyed the city of Sodome because its inhabitants practiced homosex.

Accordin to their bible, men and women function is to reproduce. If at the begining of time Adam would've being gay or Eve a lesbian, then we wouldn't be here, would we?... Now if you ask me what I think about it NOW I think that statement should be revaluate, because since the begining of the 20th century population has increased dramatically. I think God do everything for a reason and if now there is "more" homosexuals than before maybe is God way to control overpopulation. I think Bible as any other law or document should be adapt to what we life as a present...
