After all Richard was saving the number for and Earnhardt but Jr passed it up. Childress could easily decide he wants to be in the spotlight and put someone in the 3 car. You can't expect the man to hold that number forever!

Nobody thought the Jr would drive for Hendricks!

I wouldn't like it. The 24 has been synonymous with Jeff just as the 3 is synonymous with Dale Sr. and the 43 with Petty. Jeff Gordon is a Legend and for him to jump from his number into another Legends number just seems a bit overkill.

I think Dale Sr. Fans would lose thier minds over this and thier reactions would range from just silent outrage to throwing debris onto the tracks. I think a majority of NASCAR Fans would be very angry and upset about such a transition.

Jeff Gordon will always be in the 24. He signed a lifetime contract.

Richard Childress can keep paying for the 3 as long as he has money to do it. Richard Childress will keep paying for the 3 as long as he keep making money of the 3 merchandise. He makes more off the 3 merch than it cost to keep the number. Hopefully he will put the right person in a 3 car but it is not the right time yet.

Gordon in the 3 - NEVER GONNA HAPPEN.

Richard has rights to the #3!! He said ONLY an Earnhardt would be behind the wheel! as for hanging on to it forever, he could pass the company on and his wishes would stay the same!

As for Gordon driving it, I think Gordon has more respect than that!! 24 is what made Gordon. That is his #!!
God for bid if Gordon was killed in a racing accident, I think
Hendrick would do the same for Gordon as Childress did for Big E!!

Jeff Gordon? Seriously? Leaving Hendricks? No. Never. And even if he did, he wouldn't drive the 3. No one will ever drive the three again, unless Jr says he'll do it. Love him or hate him, you have to admit that Jeff Gordon respects the history of the sport, and the legacy of those who came before him.

Didn't you watch Dave Despain this morning? It would be far to emotional for him and adversely effect his driving. Dave also gave a big clue as to why he's going to Hendrixs
Wow, I missed that, I though you said Dale, but I hope
you mean Robbie Gordon since he's already over there

that would be suicide...I dont think Childress would let that happen to begin with, if you think the hatred is bad now, let something like that happen, there would be a revolt....

Not worth giving any serious consideration to this question. It's not going to happen.

It's like asking "What would the response be if Nascar started using square wheels?" - Neither are going to happen.
