A felony, in general, usually means a minimum of 1 year in prison. BUT...
In reality, she probably will not be convicted and sentenced for a felony as a first time offender. It's very likely she'll be allowed to plea down to a misdemeanor and she'll probably end up on probation and some jail time, but the judge will likely say her "time was served" waiting for the gears of justice to turn. In the end, she'll probably have to make some payments and do some community service & see a probation officer from time to time.

This is a joke right? 2nd degree? What did she steel? I know a friend who was caught shoplifting. They arrested her, took her 2 central booking then she went to court that same night and they told her to go for 2 classes. She went, got her certificate and its all over and done with. They charged it as a misdameaner so now that she took the class and got a certificated 2 prove it it will be sealed.

contact the jail, the police dept, or a bond company. you should be able to get all your questions answered by any one of these despite how late in the day it is right now.
if you wait until tomorrow, you can contact your local district attorney or county attorney's office and get the info you need.
all of this stuff is free. you only have to pay for the info if you go to a private attorney
good luck kiddo! pick up the phone book and start making those calls. but calm down first, you have to be the strong one for your brother and sister. it won't do them any good to see you fall apart.

If it is her first time ever being charged with anythiing or arrested they will take that into consideration. She will probably need to get a lawyer and will go to court. The court system will not leave you alone with younger siblings. Try not to worry. Talk to your mom and find out more about it.

No, please don't worry so much. She will most likely get probation. Does she have an attorney? This is really important - and she should not cooperate, talk, or disclose information to any law enforcement officers - no matter how friendly they are. She should only talk to her attorney. If she cannot afford one - an attorney will be appointed to her by the courts - she only has to appear for the first court date to get one. She doesn't have to enter a plea of guilt or innocence and should not do so without the advice of an attorney.

If it's her first time, and she has a clean record, they'll probably just put her on probation and hit her w/ a fine and some community service. I think it's important to find out the reason for the shoplifting, it could be sign of bad things to come. If your mom needs some help, support her and help her get it ASAP. Hope things turn out for the best.

First she will needs an attorney. More likely she will have probation. the judge will set bail for her and she can bond out. perhaps as soon as tomorrow. 2nd degree felony is just above misdemeanor.

Don't be too worried. 2nd degree is the intermediate level of seriousness (there are 3 degrees). She may have to pay a fine and/or do some time in prison, but judges take into account responsibilities to children when they assign punishments, so it may not be too bad. Good luck =)

There is nothing to be scared about. She committed a crime and they took her in. Nothing unusual about that. Happens all the time.
It is a state crime and she will only serve 30% of the sentence. For example, if they sentenced her to 30 days, she will do 9 days, and the jail of course will get overcrowded on friday and they will just let her go.
Trust me!!!!!!!!!!
If you have any specific questions just email me and I will be more than glad to give more specific answers.
Dont worry, just pray to God. Your mom will be ok!!!

The level, degree, is based on the value of the item taken. Certainly if found guilty she could be sentenced to prison, but that sentence, if she is really a first time offender, is likely to be suspended. She will be put on probation and if she violates the terms of her probation, shoplifts again, drinks alcohol, takes drugs, fails to contact her probation officer, etc., she could immediately be sent to prison to server her original sentence.
