Yes. If they are expecting her to continue to work for them when they get back. Otherwise, what is the nanny supposed to do, find a temporary job?

Well, the smart move on both parties part would have been to discuss this in advance and reach an agreement on what is to be done at vacation time.
But since that did not happen, and the nanny isn't going on vacation, they should pay. My friend is a Nanny, hired through an agency. She does not get paid when the family goes on vacation, her sick and vacation time is unpaid.
Unfortunately, the world is full of non-contractual workers, of which I am one, and we are not guaranteed the same benefits as the world who has a contract. We have a tougher time proving we were treated badly.
I think you will find that they are not obligated to pay you when you do not work, but check out your State's labor laws.

I would pay a part of the nanny's salary,
to insure the fact that the nanny doesn't take on a another job, in fact I would have an attorney draw up an agreement to that effect.

I would think this would fall under the nanny's paid vacation because if the family is away on vacation, logic would dictate this as a perfect time for the nanny to vacation, as well. So, IMHO, yes, she should be paid.

Yes, you should be paid. I was a nanny and the family went away for a week. I was expected to house sit, feed the cat, and they asked me to do some extra cleaning while they were gone. I received my regular pay. Just living there you'll invariably house sit, so you should be paid.

Absolutely! If she works full time, it isn't her fault there will be no one to watch because of family taking vacation. I baby sat 2 kids 5 days a week while I was taking classes at night. When they went on vacation twice a year, they paid me right along. I didn't ask, they told me that's how they did it. Tickled me to death, I never expected it. All these years later, I still respect them for thinking of the sitter.

it quite is unacceptable to diminish her pay considering which you have desperate to bypass on trip. you purely suggested you recognize you will desire to, so purely pay her. it quite is her earnings, probably her purely source, or a minimum of her best source. She has been dependable to you, do no longer make her go through considering which you wanna bypass on trip. i don't understand how wealthy you're, so perhaps it quite is an unfair judgement, yet i grew to become into purely speaking to a chum (we are the two former nannies) as we communicate and she or he grew to become into telling me some comparable project she had while she grew to become right into a nanny. In our stories (as nannies) it continuously seems to be the wealthiest households who're the main inexpensive! a million/2 a month's pay, what's that, perhaps $one thousand? That $one thousand probably potential no longer something to you, you will likely spend that on a handbag mutually as on trip; yet I assure you it potential a great purchase to her! So pay up or I promise you, she is gonna be bitter and indignant and could probably stop on you. i think of it quite is honest to invite her to ascertain in on the domicile 2x/wk, carry interior the mail ect.

Yes! If there is any doubt in your mind call the agency you used to get the job and discuss it with them (if you used an agency) - otherwise you will need to let the parents know you do expect to get paid.

No. No work, no pay. She would not get paid for the 2 weeks if she worked for an agency.
